  • HW up-grade 2 compliment G400 - advice please

    OK,
    I'm now in the market 2 upgrade my processor from a celery 366 2 a new celery 2 (500 maybe). the thing is i'll need a new board as my asus p2b won't run this processor. i already have pc133 ram, so that's not a problem, the question is... what is a good board 2 go 4 - 1 that will run @ 133 *with* my g400?
    i've not been keeping up with hardware lately...
    thanx in advance

    I've come to love the Abit BE6-2 for it's o/c potential, however, if you like Asus, the Asus CUSL2 looks very nice!

      Your MB still has some life left in it. Maggi should be along soon to tell you about his Celeron 566 (slighly OC'ed ) on a P2B-S 1.02. Plenty of people are putting various slockets on that MB and running FCPGA CPUs at 1.8v. Check out alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus NG.

        P2b can do 133mhz FSB. It's an un-documented jumper setting on the mobo...

        133Mhz =
        fs0 = 2/3
        fs1 = 1/2
        fs2 = 1/2

          thanx 4 the replies everyone, but i believe my p2b is one of the first revisions of the board & is not able 2 run cpu's with the p3 core. i have tried a p3 in it with an asus slocket and no joy whatsoever. tried diff volt combos & eveything, so a new board is the only way... =(
          cheers

            And here we go ...

            According to ASUS my MoBo had to be rev 1.04 or higher in order to support Coppermines (which Cel-2s basically are).

            But now I run a Cel-566 happily at 952MHz !!!

            They trick to get it booting was to up the VCore above 1.7 and now I'm settled at 1.85 volts to have it stable @ 112MHz FSB.

              hey maggi,
              thanx 4 the response. i have (some months ago) looked in2 this issue quite deeply, & i'm afraid my board is indeed a revision prior 2 1.04, as far as i could c there was nothing i could do 2 make it workable. it's been so long ago i can't remember all the details - sorry. however - please prove me wrong! =) i'd love 2 b able 2 get a little more life out of this board.
              otherwise it looks as though it'll b a cubx or cusl2. i've heard cubx's have problems o'clocking celery 2's.
              thanx again ever1, & any further posts would b greatly recieved!
              cheers jas
