The difference in visual quality is amazing to say the least. The Geforce seriously looks washed out. Not to mention the sky in 32bit on the GF looks awful. There are many other anomolies with the GF visuals, but those are the two that stood out the most. I don't care what anyone says, there is a HUGE difference in visual quality between the two.
As for the benchmarks, well the MAX keeps up just fine considering it came out before the GF and you can play any game at any of those fps that it was putting out.

Isn't it interesting to see such an old and outdated card being re-reviewed again one year after its release ?

What was that term again ... uhm, yeah ... future prove ...

          Cheers,
          Maggi

PS: I'm glad that the text is not as neccessary as in some other reviews. Instead they just numbers & pictures do the main talking.

And if you put a true CPU with it instead of that castrated Celery chip it would do even better. What ppl don't seem to take into account sometimes is that other componets in your machine (ie. CPU) has a big play on gaming performance. Until we have an on-board deticated geometry chip the CPU will continune to play a major role in overall performance when gaming.

Isn't this the same site which caried out the recent survey and got really upset when Matrox owners voted en-mass for their card??

Perhaps that is what prompted this new review?

Is it me or their benchmarks (especially in UT) are too low?

I mean at 800X600 in 32 bits color I get like 50-55 fps!! And I only have an Athlon 750Mhz. I do have 256 megs of memory though.

Could it be that the Max is more tuned to use the 3dnow than the SSME?

                Just wondering

http://www.3dcenter.de/artikel/g400max/ posted yesterday a review of the G400 MAX ...

Only letdown for our internationel visitors is that is done in German.
Fortunately the benchmarks numbers are clear for everybody ...

You really shouldn't be comparing those screenshots with the awful looking skies. The reviewer left texture compression on, that's why it looks so bad. He may as well left the geforce in 16bit colour while he was at it...

For those of us, like me, whose German is "nicht so gut", I suggest viewing the site through the Babelfish translator.

                            http://babelfish.altavista.com/

If nothing else you'll get some chuckles out of the literal translations.

The G400 max stings however my private GeForce with the image quality in 3D-Spielen clearly out!
                            or

I think, say everything. The image quality of the G400 max is beyond all masses.
I couldn't have said it better myself...

Good point, Rob. That's exactly what I was thinking as I looked at those shots. In reality, there isn't nearly as big a difference between the two cards as those shots would lead you to believe. On the other hand, the Unreal flyby scene DOES show a significant bias toward the G400 (IMO, anyway- look at those reflections on the floor and the flaming braziers).

                              System specs:
                              Gainward Ti4600
                              AMD Athlon XP2100+ (o.c. to 1845MHz)
