Well, after a slightly embarrasing weekend of commenting her about concerns over Matrox driver support, I replaced the GeForce2 that came w/ my system with a "vanilla" G400SH.
What a difference in image quality - text is easily read, graphics snap w/ color. PaulC's commentary was right on.
Nvidia has the lock on OpenGL (except for professional use which goes to 3Dlabs). Suffice to say that Nvidia target the gamer.
That being said, noted a couple of things.
1. Just for kicks, I installed the DVD player (Ravisent Cinemaster 99) to see if it'd work. It did. The only thing that was noted were screen flashes at changing chapters showing a green/yellow screen stating "macrovision".
2. The 5.04 "certified" drivers don't appear to recognize the OEM board. Hmmm...
3. 5.11 beta drivers appear to be very stable.
