  • ASUS A7V + G400 = x1 AGP = not good

    Hi all,

I've got myself a T'Bird 800 with the ASUS A7V motherboard and G400DH. I've installed the VIA 4in1 drivers V4.23 with Win98SE According to all the diagnostic programs it says it is running in x1AGP mode.

I've looked at the registry and it says it is running/configured in x2 mode...

Any ideas on getting x2 or x4 working?

Is this anything to do with VIAGART.VXD?

    robert

P.S. I've been getting 3DMark2000 numbers of 2850, I think this is low. Is it?

    bag_it,

Have you tried the new Matrox Tweak utility? That's how I got mine to run AGP2x. I don't have the 4x board so I don't know about that. When you look at all of the diag progs, doe sit say the mobo is the problme or the G400? Mine always said the mobo, but the tweak utility hooked me up.

As far as 3DMark2k, that score is a little low. Here are all of my results for you to compare to. I could probably get a little higher results if I OC'ed the FSB and mem settings instead of the multiplier but the board is extremely fast in everything I do.

Let me know how things turn out.

I too have had this agp x1 issue. Again it is the VIA chip set but this time on the Gigabyte GA-6vX7-4x.

I have the at the moment just the AGP G400 installed (I am using the on board sound chip).

With the new 4in1 driver (4.23) and using the Matrox tweak utility, I can get the rating upto x2. But then Anything that uses GL drivers has random flashes everywhere. Quake III is very bad...

I am also using the new G400 driver (6.something).. I suspect that I cannot have both...

Later I will try the new 4in1 drivers with an older G400 driver. I think I have most stored somewhere. Any suggestions on whioch one I should use?

If I had to choose a safe set of drivers it would be 5.41.

Aaaany way, back to my problems. I've tried the Matrox (mtstu200) utility, the 3rd party one (matrox_tweak_utility) and G400Tweak, all to no results, still x1.

From what I can tell they all tweak the same thing, the registry setting for the AGP mode.

Can anyone tell me about the AMD Miniport driver thing, i've heard that it sometimes interferes with the VIA 4in1 drivers..

Is there anything in the registry entries for the VIA chip set that could give me a clue as to what is happening?

        robert.

P.S. What are the differences between AGP x1 and x2?

in addition, fewer like 3000 points in the 3d2k really few are, it arrive on the processor. All cards T&L do not offer have anyway no chance in the 3d2k. I create at present 3600 points, in the 3dMark99 scratch I even at the 9000 boundary .
