• Dissapearing subtitles when playing DVD

    Hi,

whenever i play DVD's on my DVD-machine (Cel566,AbitVa6,128mb,G400 16mb DH,SB128PCI,A-open 6x DVD) the subtitles dissapear after about 10 minutes of playing (depending on the movie, Sixth Sense has it every 10 minutes, 007-world not enough about every 20 minutes).
When i press pause/play the subtitles appear again.

On my 'normal' pc with G400MAX the effect also occurs, but not as often.

Is this G400 related, is it the matrox-dvd-player or is it something else?????

    Michel

ps. DMA is enabled for the DVD-drive

I'm not sure, but I think it almost has to be the software. Try Win DVD or PowerDVD. Both should work. I prefer WinDVD.

You can also try updating the Cinemaster software.

      Ok, just installed WinDVD2000 v2.1

The subtitles are working correctly now, but playback is choppy as hell..

      Any ideas??

Might be WinDVD requires a faster computer than Cinemaster. Don't expect smooth play at 1024x768x32. Should be ok at 800x600.

Did you try updating the Cinemaster player?

I've been there, done that! I've tried a LOT of players just to get subtitles!! But now it works very very fine, and how? Thanx to matrox for their drivers...
Ok, this is how I got it to work (after tryin' for half a year and gave up..) :

Upgraded my computer from K6-450 to athlon 700
Installed the cinemaster that came with my G400 one year ago
Have tried with PD5.52 and 6.0beta, both work fine
Installed latest bios in my matrox (v1.6??? don't remember )
Bougth a bottle of happy joy joy feeling and enjoyed my movie with subtitles
Sometimes just the simplest things work, I'm very happy that matrox have improved their drivers with the dvd playback, one year ago there was no subtitles and now all the sudden there is, I had lost my hope for subtitles there for a while...
          Hope this helps

I don't think the choppiness is in the speed of the system, because when i play at 640x480x16 the choppiness is the same!!

I tried to upgrade de cinemaster player, but that didn't work at all.. the player wouldn't even start.

I just rememberd something: i had choppiness problems when i first bought my dvd drive. I solved it by installing newer drivers for the soundcard (SBPCI 128, was in my own system back then, i put it in the other system because is was just lying on the shelf).

The only problem is that Creative Labs made two versions of the SBPCI128, and i only can find drivers for the newest (model ct4700) one (i have the first model, model es3100)

If only i can find the right drivers...

Michel - You might consider buying a SB Live Value. They're dirt cheap, good quality, modern drivers, etc.
