  • Huh? BSOD :(

I installed W98 on a new drive in an effort to get a game to work properly, and I hoped this would solve all my problems, but no..
I have quite a few different powerdesk versions and the most recent one I have got to work on this new install is 4.33... More recent ones either freeze or BSOD then freeze whenever I try to shut down the computer or start a directx game.... I have never had this problem before (I think I must have had every other one tho and still have a few on my main install!) but I really don't see why the new drivers won't work... If I change hard drives and use my old one with 6.11 on, I have no such problems...
Perhaps I have forgotten do to something on the new install? I can't think of anything though...

First a question in the "Duhhhh" category.

    1. Are the drives configured properly in relation to each other? Master/Slave? Primary Dos Partition correctly set? basics like that?

    2. Are both drives still in the machine or are you physically removing one and plugging the other in?

Make sure your DirectX SW is up to date.

Ohh nope not that. Hehe... Actually I have both plugged in most of the time and swap the drive letters round with the BIOS..
But both are removable drives so sometimes I just have one in... I know it's nothing to do with that tho coz everything else works fine with an ancient powerdesk but when I use the newest ones it does a VMM BSOD etc...

Most of the time, VMM errors are caused by the lack of VIA chipset patches on motherboards using that chipset... is this the case? Did you install the patches?

I didn't this time, because I was getting random crashes before and they seemed to stop when I uninstalled them... I will try again tho.. What do I need? The gart thing or what? Turbo mode?

If you have a VIA chipset, then just got with the 4 in 1 build 424, run that and you'll be set.

Yeah I know about that.. I just meant which part of that fixes the error?
Anyway I installed the AGP one and it it seems ok now
