  • 64 Mb Aperture with i815 ?

    hi,

i've read ASUS CUSL2's manual and see that only 32 and 64 Mb aperture size are use.

Could that be a trouble for AGP with large texture ?

Could someone make a test with 3Dmark 200 and the 64 Mb texture's test or something that use big textures.

    thanks

Not sure if it will have problem, or even there exists any applications that make use of more then 64MB of texture. Anyway, there's what you've got to live with, that's the max aperture for i815 chipsets.

If you're sicked with it, you shouldn't have jump to i815 without some technical research.

This is bad, because some G400's and GeForces won't function properly with the AGP Aperture at 64 MB.

Hey, I've got a Dell right here in front of me with an i815. Yes, it only provides 32 and 64mb for the agp aperture.

When it gets to the 32 or 64mb render test in 3dMark, it aborts 3dMark. lol... This is with a Geforce 256 no less. haahahahahah...

            I only get 3610 marks. :P

I have used both the 815E Abit and Asus flavor. I have had Geforces and G400's running no problem. 3Dmark runs fine. I got a 6250 with one of these boards. Buy one they work fine.

                thank guys

LAMFTDK : About the score, doesn't matter if you launch the texture bench or not. You can have a score (even a good) without the 64 Mb texture bench working.

                  well,

i have not a lot of time but make some test today with aperture size 64 Mb with a PIII and P3B-F and W98. Ready !

                  G400sh 16 Mo, Q3, 800*600

                  ----------------------------
16 bits color, 16 texture, level texture 3/4, bilineare

                  TG 1.30 : OK
                  ICD 6.01 : OK

                  ----------------------------
32 bits color, 16 texture, level texture 4/4, bilineare

                  TG 1.30 : OK
                  ICD 6.01 : OK

                  ---------------------------
32 bits color, 32 texture, level texture 4/4, bilineare

                  TG 1.30 : NO
ICD 6.01 : OK (not sure ?, with some map seem to works)

                  ---------------------------
32 bits color, 32 texture, level texture 4/4, Trilineare

                  TG 1.30 : NO
                  ICD 6.01 : NO

                  --------------------------------
I think with a 32 Mo board this trouble will not appear as soon as on my 16 Mo, but what about the future ? The troubles is not coming from the texture size (a little ), but the way the drivers are made. It seems that Matrox (nivia too ?) use a big aperture size to boost speed.

                  Any idea, more test, ....

                    Intel is very smart:

they limited the chipset at 64MB Aperture, and since you only can use 15.8MB of RAM for AGP textures in Win2k, noone will be bothered by this problem (in win2k)...

                    Very smart indeed!

^$*^#@*&$^*@#^$*&@#^$*&@# Intel: Release a updated GART driver for Win2k, NOW!
