G400 + DVD question

Hi. I've had my G400DH for a year now and been happy with it. Now I'm thinking of getting a DVD-ROM drive and wanted to clarify some points:

To watch DVD movies on television via DH s-video out, do I need some special software other than a normal powerdesk install?

Is this a good substitute to bying a dedicated dvd-player?

Any other points you might want to share?

well, it is much cheaper than buying a stand-alone player. In your Matrox Bundle is a DVD Softare Player included, the MAtrox DVD Player which uses the Cinemaster Engine (allthough I would recommend that if your cpu is fast enough to use WinDVD or PowerDVD). You may want to use a newer engine because the old one had some issues.

IMHO the picture you output via DVDMax (included in Powerdesk) to your TV is superior to the picture most stand-alone players show.

I have used my g400max for watching dvd's since I got it 1 year ago, and the picturequality is great, its a cheap and very good way of getting a dvdplayer.

In my opinion the cinemaster is better than powerdvd, but try it out for yourself - either way u wont be disappointed!!

Btw if u want to be able to watch dvd's from other regions as well as your native region u have to be sure that the drive u buy is NOT regionlocked!!

Well until yesterday I used cinemaster but now I want to watch my DVDs in Dolby Digital or DTS *rocks* (its a shame that Creative still doesn't have ac3 enabled in Win2k, had to boot Win98 for the first time in month)and even with the help of dvd-genie I doesn't work with Cinemaster. With WinDVD and PowerDVD it works perfectly!!!
