  • DVD problems

It's been long time since I last posted to this forum and now.....I'm back again!

Recently I have changed my samsung dvd/cd rom to Pioneer 104s (10x 40x).
To test my new drive I tried "Devil's Advocate" dvd movie with bundled dvd max, but I got a message like (more or less) this: error code 0x8000.

I decided then to uninstall dvd max and try power dvd 2.55.

I succeeded in playing the movie but I noticed (either on my monitor and on TV) some "frame skip" problems.

I have tried many different settings but the problem remains.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion you might give.

    Daniele.

    Welcome Back Daniele

    Check this thread over on the Matrox T.S. forums;
    http://forum.matrox.com/mgaforum/For...ML/000332.html

You may need to get some hacked firmware for your DVD Rom. This RPC II thing is gonna be the cause of many headaches.

Thank you very much for your response, Bixler.

I'll try to manage something (including firmware check).

I read the thread and it was useful, even if I'm not too sure to have well understood the RPC II problem.

When I inserted the dvd disc for the first time I was prompted to choose between 2 region code (2 and 4), while the other three regions could not be selected. Since then I 've not been prompting anymore on this matter.

Thanks again for your kind and quick answer.

      Daniele.

        Danielle:

Short version of the long thread:

RPCII DVD Rom drives handle the region coding issue internally--inside their own hardware. This is just the next step in the never-ending game of hopscotch between MPAA and hackers out to defeat these unneccessary headaches.

Just use extreme caution about switching regions until you've got full control of the situation.

Many helpful tips and tricks are available at www.digital-digest.com including firmwares, registry hacks, etc.

It's a real shame that these issues turn us all into amateur pirates, but so goes the world...good luck.
