  • Kicks me back

Hi, I have a big problem!
Everytime I try to start a game, I get kicked back too desktop. It's okay in the game-menu, but when the game starts i get kicked back. These are some of the games that i have tried it on : Gran Prix 3 - Rouge spear - Toca touring 2. I think it has something to do with the OpenGL driver, but i'm not sure.
    My system configuration is :
    Abit BF6 Mainboard
    FCPGA 566 Celeron
G400 Dual Head 32 MB RAM
    128 MB SD-RAM
I hope you can help me, thanks!!!

ToCa uses D3d afaik and hence you might check whether your desktop is set to 24bpp colordepth, which is not hardware accelerated.

If so, use 32bpp instead and enjoy ...

Thank you for your help, but i'm sorry to say that your solution to my problem did not help. It still kicks me back to my desktop after about 5 sec. to 1 min. of game play.

Do you have DirectX 7 or above? What drivers are you using.

did you uninstall your last drivers before installing your latest ones?

Do you have a IRQ conflict?

Do you have something running in the background that might be causing it?

These seem to be the most common problems, so look into them first, then let us know how you went.

          Thanks for your respond.

I have directX 7 installed, and i'm using the latest drivers from matrox.

I did uninstall the last driver installed before installing the new one.

I dont have any IRQ conflict.

And last, i'm not running anything in the background.

Also I installed the latest bios (109) which
          did not help eiter...

But thanks for your advice, let me now if you come up with anything else??????

don't know if this is if any help but similiar sort of thing used to happen with me using p3 550 katami @ 605. always had to reduce o/clock for games.seems that cpu/heatsink interface was not optimal so off came thermal interface pad from heatsink & applied thermal transfer compound. suddenly all was well even at x112fsb. never looked back since.

I had the same (kick-back) problem with a couple of other driving games.

They would only run in 16 bit resolutions with my G400 (but in 32 bit with other cards). So if you haven´t tried 16 bit, do so and see if it works.
And if so, live with it until you can afford another card.

                Are you overclocking?

To Ibrahim : I am using thermal transfer compound.

                  To Rubank : I have tried both 16 & 32 bit.

To Paulcs : Yes I am overclocking.
Cpu 566 FCPGA running at 638 MHZ.

To Everybody : Today I tried switching the two 64 MB SD-RAM Moduls to one 128 MB SD-RAM Modul. I think that helpet, but can that really be the true problem????
                  Thanks to all of you!!!!

If you are overclocking you might also try increasing your voltage a bit. I had a similar problem with the 3dMark 2000 on my P3-700@933, which seemed fairly stable at 1.70v (default is 1.65), and it went away at 1.75. Who knows, you might be able to get it past 638 then too.

I'm with floodle. This sounds like a mild overclocking issue and bumping up the voltage a bit could correct it.

Problems associated with mismatched DIMM's can be more severe than getting booted out of games. If switching to a single DIMM fixed the problem, however, then I would consider the problem fixed and be done with it.

I also had this "bumping back to desktop"-problem for quite some time and it occured especially in games like driver and NFS5. Forcing AGP 1x seemed to help a bit but not very much (bumping back after 7-10 mins instead of 2-5), I've tried other things as well (different AGP miniport and G400-driver versions) and finally got it to happen only once and then, but none of these solutions fully prevented this behaviour.
When I upgraded to 256MB RAM these problems suddenly disappeared, the card never bumped me back to the desktop since then...
