  • G450 IS A JOKE!

G450 is a joke! nothing else. It's a scale down version of the G400.

Matrox's new G800 better be GOOD and release in the next few months, otherwise we should see Matrox filing bankcrapcy pretty soon.

    Your comments are welcome.

No - it's not a joke, it's real! I have one sitting right in front of me!

Right, you may think it's crap, and so may others, others read what the market is it's aimed for and realise it fulfills this need well.

But Matrox doesn't really care what indivudals (i.e you!) think. This card has answered all the requests made by their big OEMs (HP/Compaq etc). That's where they make their money, that's why they're not filing for bankruptcy.

I agree, it's an oem card. I think marketing it to the retail channel though is going to do more harm than good unless they get the G800 out pronto.

Yeah, me too. I think that they made it retail mostly for the publicity although that may backfire. They just haven't been in the "real" news for a while.

I just spent most of last week and this week so far playing Age Of Empires2: The Conquerors. I have also played Diablo2 a lot when it first came out, although not so much for while now. Note that AOE2 and Diablo2 are best sellers and they are 2D.

So, when people say that it's not good for games, these people forget that there are a lot of gamers who prefer 2D games. Such is my case.

Unfortunately for me, I also play Q3A and I recently purchased UT because it was 50% off and proved to be very excellent and addictive. So I will have no choice but to get an MX. Note that I am going from a g200.

I can say that the g450 is not for all-around gamers or gamers who like 3D action. But I think that to say it's not for gamers ignores a lot gamers. Besides, I am sure that 2D gamers spend more time with their games than 3D gamers.

Anyway, I literally can't wait for the g800 anymore (unless there is an announcement tomorrow), so I want a geforce2 MX by the weekend. I am very much concerned with 2D quality so hopefully it won't to bad.

Stevie is right but the pr bafoons have mucked up another one. This card is not aimed towards the gamers but they bundle a bunch of games with it, send it to gaming sites to review but forget to tell them not to bench it with games.

Has anyone been keeping tabs on how many blunders these bafoons have made?

I have yet to pull a card out of an OEM system (new'er) all chips are built into the board!

Salmonius, buy the cheapest MX card and clock the hell out of it. Have fun.

Swampy's got a point the whole PR push behind this card is FUBAR!!!....

It's being promoted just like the G400 when it is intended for OEMs and for Business. Why did they send them to Gaming sites for reviews only to get massacred in benchmarks by all the competions newer cards.

Sounds like Matrox needs a good old fashioned House Cleaning in their PR and Marketing Departments. They are just too out of touch with their products and what the public wants.

House cleaning is the least they can do. I wonder how many fubar's they have to do for someone to wake up and smell the snow up there.

                - g200 icd scandal
                - dvd mod for the rrs but later changed their minds
                - fusion, marvel etv, ... stuff left in the drivers
                - last 4 driver releases get pulled off the next day
                - media xl card for the impression but then changed thier minds. This really pissed me off because I bought 42 of them at my old job because of customized mci apps that we had to do.
                - 2x/4x compliant/compatable thingy.
                - G450 leak from matrox germany at cebit
                - G450 leak from matrox uk
                - Their sorry ass excuse for macrovision.
I think this is still somewhere on the idiot's site:

"Macrovision copyright protection indicates that it is illegal to record DVDs
and movies. There isn't anything Matrox can do about it. For Matrox to be a licensed hardware DVD vendor we have to comply with MacroVision standards. So, we have to keep an automatic response in place and don't have any registry keys to turn it off. Sorry. It is illegal to tape the DVDs and videos and, to be able to continue to provide users with DVD functionality, we as a vendor, must comply with Macrovision's standards."

If that's the case, why do I have this crap on my G400? I don't have a hardware dvd card from them!!

                - Further down in the same article, this response allways made me laugh:

"If users did not fully educate
themselves on the features of the product, Matrox cannot be held responsible."

All this crap in a few years, it's a wonder they can sell anything in the retail market.

                Anyone else?

If the G450 is indeed a joke, you must prove it to us by answering several questions and completing a story:

Q: Why did the G450 cross the road?
                      A:

Q: How many G450's does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Q: What has a 64-bit DDR memory bus and flies?
                      A:

"The Pope, a Rabbi, and the G450 walk into a bar ..." [Please complete.]

(I realize this stuff must be pretty culturally specific. For your average seven year old growing up in the US, this is the very pinnacle of humor.)

Ooh, wait! I've heard these before....

Q: Why did the G450 cross the road?
A: Because it was being chased by angry Matrox fans.

Q: How many G450's does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: Two, but don't ask me how they got in there.

Q: What has a 64-bit DDR memory bus and flies?
                        A: A G450 covered in honey.

"The Pope, a Rabbi, and the G450 walk into a bar ..." both the Pope and the Rabbi suffered a concussion. The G450 was moving so slow to begin with it didn't get a scratch on it.

OK, OK..... These are just jokes folks. The G450 arrived without any suprises to any of us. We expected a solid dualhead G400-esque card to hold us over until they can wow us with the G800 and that's what we got. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that Matrox can make the magic happen again with their next release, and soon. I am impatience personified but I'm willing to give them one more shot. (but hurry!)

Let's not pass judgement on Matrox just yet. The G800 or whatever they might call it has yet to be rolled-out. I do agree that it has to be rolled-out soon.

But long-time Matrox users have come to expect the long turn-arounds. I don't really see the G800 coming out until sometime next year and in any great quantity.

The G450 doesn't really replace the vanilla G400 32MB DH (maybe the 16MB version) and definitely not the G400 MAX. But it's there and Matrox' plans for this as a replacement to the vanilla G400.

And price isn't bad at all considering what one gets. I'd call it a revision to the G400 and a pretty decent revision at that.

Granted it doesn't perform well against other gaming cards but it wasn't introduced for that purpose.

If my vanilla G400 32MB DH burned-out right now, I'd grab the G450 b/c of it's newer design.

For work and productivity Matrox boards are excellent.

Call me silly, and call me stupid. But I swear when M first announced their G450 bottlerocket to the world they said it was a Business card. Not a gamers card, but a biz card.

So why are we so surprised that it sucks ass in benchmarks and what not?

did M blow it? Of course they did. Anything new here? Is this the first time they have ever done this?

If you are a current G200 owner, this would be a good upgrade until the G800 comes out. Otherwise, don't waste your money.

And just because I am a wonderin. is there any game out there that the G400 doesn't do a decent job running?

Hmmmmmmm where is Flangor when I need him. Seems this would be a good time to let an Axe fly around.

                            Riddick: Like the first one.

To everyone else. Chill out man. And cross your fingers that the G80o will be out in a couple months.
