Oh, so if I don't mindlessly worship Matrox I should leave. Or if I buy products from a company other than Matrox I should leave.
I happen to be a fan of Matrox, and I own a g200 card. But I don't want to wait any more for the g800 and it's annoying when people post false information to get their jollies.
If only pro-Matrox content is welcome in these forums then this is quite a dull place to visit. I'm out. You guys with your "NDAs" are too cool for me.
Well said xortam.
And Joel, A-Dog is partly right in what he said, your comment of him leaving wasn't necessary,(I don't think he was rude or anything), especially coming from a moderator...

For those of you who've been hanging around here long enough you'd get the pattern by now.
It's no accident that Haig and a couple of others have been paying close attention and posting in at a little above average rate in the last few days. Something is clearly coming soon, and we'll all just have to wait.
NO DOUBT the chipspec for the 800 (or whatever) is coming, and soon.
Which means Jan-March for Hardware...if you can't wait that long, get something else. By the time the 800 (or whatever) comes out, what you've bought will be out of date anyway.
Greebe's juiced up Athlon @750 on an MSI Irongate Based M/B Marvel G200 TV with HW/DVD Daughtercard,
CDBurner, Creative DVD, two big WD Hdds, Outboard 56K modem
Parallel Port Scanner, Creative S/B AWE 64 (ISA), and a new Logitech WebCam (My first USB device)
I don't want Matrox to become a king of vapourware like the Bit Boys, but I'd like to know about their next generation chip/card as soon as possible.
BTW, what is the schedule for directx8 release? Perhaps there is some truth to the rumors that the G800 (?) will take advantage of all the frills of dx8.
What I would like to know is : how can a company that says NOTHING about future hardware be making "vaporware"?
A Dog, if you believe everything you read on a forum, then that's your problem. Don't come in here and start pissing and moaning because some "salted peanut" was playing around. All you do is satisfy him, and piss everyone else off. You just end up looking like a pissy little twit when you act that way, and I am sure you are not that way; or are you?
This is the same old thing over and over again. Someone comes along who probably knows absolutely nothing about what Matrox has in the works and then states a date of when information is due. Then you have someone else who, because nothing shows up on that date, starts whinning about Matrox and basically saying that they are going to leave if Matrox doesn't do something soon. What am I suppose to say? Oh poor baby! I'm sorry but Matrox never annouced a Sept. 11th date for anything and whoever posted it didn't know what the hell they were talking about either. BTW, did you not see my smiley at the end of my post.

And Ant and I had our reasons for stating what we stated.
Libertarian is still the way to go if we truly want a real change.
I read with great interest the 200+ posts thread a few weeks back and it has really got me interested to see what it is that Matrox are working on. I noticed in that thread the date Sept 11 thrown in, out of the blue. I have quietly waited for that date, just to see if anything happens.
I think I have already decided to buy a G800 (or any whatever it is they'll call their next product) at some stage in the future. But that doesn't mean I was highly disappointed at Sept 11 come and go with not a peep from Matrox.
All it meant was that either someone was yanking our chains, or they may have been talking about somethign else (didn't someone say a few posts back something about drivers?)
The fact that nothing was said by Matrox doesn't lower my opinion of them one notch. I still love my G400, despite the fact that it's now the bottleneck in my pc. I don't care. I don't get ridiculously high frame rates in Q3A, but that's not all there is to life.
Like now - here I am at work (I am self-employed so use my own pc) with 2x 17" monitors. No other graphics card other than the GeForce2 MX can boast such a feature, and I'm sure as heck not giving up the quality of my G400 for the extra fps in Quake 3.
All that said, I would like to see Matrox again give nVidia and the likes a bit of a shake down with a new chip with the kinds of features that are being speculated upon. But in the end, if they can come out with something that is as much a step up as the G400 was from the G200, then I'll be upgrading - even if it is as late as March next year.

wow i think MATROX has the absolute best marketing around!!! They never tell you about their chip just misteriously put some hidden files in the drivers and when someone finds out... BAM instant advertising because they wanna share that little secret with everyone in the world!! MAN no wonder nVidia wants matros PR guys they are geniuses i tell you geniuses!!
BTW... i am just messin with ya so don't ROAST ME!!
although there is some truth in your post. The best way to create a hype is to say _nothing_, but only leak very small details like the name and stuff....
if you give too many specs, then people know a bit what they can expect, which takes away a bit of the 'surprise-element'.
what we should do is check when g800 was put in first in the drivers, so we know how long whey have been working on them, _at least_ (since they could have had seperate drivers before)
