  • G400 and AGP speed

    Hello,
I've owned this G400 for an exactly one year, Happy Birhtday to her, Hip Hip Hurrah...

BTW, I'm planning to overclock my BX based system to 133 Mhz which will causes AGP bus to run at 89 Mhz.
There is any G400 (vanilla) survive 89 Mhz AGP speed with AGP 2x mode?

You most likely wont get good results. If you want to do this, stay in 1X. else it will crash. But hey, best way to find out is to try it. You already know that you are going over the specs and taking some risks, so have fun.

Yep, the card will handle 89 mhz no problem, but you'll probably have to stay with AGP 1x. My card defaults to this setting when I bump the FSB to 133. Although, some people have reported stability at 2x (some forced, some not).

If I force 2x, I get some image corruption in certain apps, and 3dmark 2000 will lock up on me.

I kinda wonder if ram quality and speed may make a difference-- my generic pc-100 is maxed out at 133 and cas 3, but I've seen people post that they're at 2x with the exact same system as mine (asus p3b-f, 650e@866 and vanilla 32meg dualhead) only with pc-133 or name brand cas 2 ram.

As Zwisch said-- only one way to find out.

      Heed.
      Thought thinks itself.

        Thanks for responding.
BTW is there any performance difference beetwen AGP 1X and AGP2X in most games both D3D and OpenGL??

I'm running at 89Mhz AGP bus with 2x transfers (forced, but then I had to force 2x AGP when running at spec speeds ).

There is a slight difference between 1x and 2x AGP, but I think that 1x AGP on an 89Mhz bus is faster than 2x on 66, before you take into account the increased speed of your processor

Running at 92MHz and AGP 2X works fine for me (not forced).
