I'm in the process of selecting components for a new PC. I have no interest
in gaming, just business applications, a little development, some video
editing (more on this in another thread) and photo processing. The latter
2, purely in an amateur, domestic capacity.
I've settled on an MSI-694D PRO motherboard running dual PIII 733s under
Win2K.
I was totally sold on a G400 DH unit until I discovered through one of the
Matrox forums that full DualHead capabilities are not supported under Win2K.
Supposedly the 2 monitors can only be used as if they were a single desktop
and must have the same refresh rate and resolution. The Matrox site
provides a table of Dual Head features supported by various OSs for the
G450 which seems to contradict the above (i.e. all features are available as
long as resolutions are the same) but I couldn't find anything specific to
the G400.
My intention is to run a 21" and 17" monitor, both Trinitrons.
Can someone please answer the following questions:
1. Can I expect the above configuration to work?
2. Are all the dual head features (zoom, DVD max, TV) supported under Win2k
within the constraints of eqal resolution?
3. Can DualDisplay be enabled/disabled on the fly (without rebooting) so I
can switch the 21" monitor to maximum resolution when the second screen is
not required and reduce the resolution when bringing the second screen on
line?
4. If gaming performance is not an issue, is there any value to be had from
a G400MAX over a plain G400 with 32Meg?
Thanks in advance,
Vladimir.
