    pchoi,

You can be helpful by pointing folks to Anandtech, but stop tooting your nvidia horn. Just because YOU had a problem with the G400 you put into YOUR machine doesn't mean everyone else does. I know lots of machines that HATE nvidia cards, and can't EVER be made to work with them.

Heck, my wife's machine refused to run with a Voodoo! I mean, that's the most compatible card on the face of the planet... and her machine just crashes hard with a perfectly good Voodoo3 in it! Wow! If I were a person like you, I'd be on the Voodoo forums telling everyone how the Voodoo3 is impossible to set up and they should buy a GeFarce2 MX!

Do you see my point? I honestly don't think you will, since you seem fairly resistant to logic so far. But if we keep flaming you you'll eventually either get it... or leave. We don't care which, honestly. We'd like your company if you're willing to get a clue, but otherwise...

      Gurm, you're absolutely right

He's been trolling around here lately and tactfully trying to persuade people to go the nVidiot route, I guess he's feeling a little self-concious about his choice or lack of skill with "Gx00" cards

How did I toot my nvidia horn? I didn't suggest the GF2 to him, and I certainly didn't point out FPS stats, which would easily point him towards GF2 cards and put the G400 to shame. I pointed out visual quality and compatibility, both which have equal pros and cons towards Matrox. Of course nvidia cards run faster, every doofus knows that. I pointed out resources that could help him, I don't believe I ever said "GET THE NVIDIA CARDS BECAUSE THE MATROX CARDS SUX0RS!!". I must be writing that with invisible ink or something eh?

G400 skills? Don't make me laugh. You didn't design the card and you certainly didn't write drivers for it. The only "skills" you have are installing drivers and clicking checkboxes to turn options on/off. When you do ASIC/VLSI design on graphics chips then come back and post relevant information other than "pchoi sucks! Flame him!".

I also noticed ever since I started replying to threads they quickly gained a lot of attention, definitely more attention than 1 month ago. Just look at the threads before and tell me many flaming threads you see, compared to today?

Just a thought, probably pure coincidence.

          pchoi,

You're a little pissant drop in the bucket compared to great trolls of the past such as ManojM and the unnamable one.

I read an awful lot of text, do a lot of 3d modelling/rendering, a fair bit of web design (including image editing) and play games once every so often.
The G400 Max will do well for just about all of the things you listed here (especially for image editing, web design and reading text).

I'm afraid though that you end up buying a card and having drivers which don't support your 3D modelling/rendering application well.
I'm not saying this from experience but Matrox does not seem to be too interested in 3d acceleration in applications too much these days. Games work ok though if having the fastest speed is of no concern.

So all in all I would suggest you trying the card first somehow before buying one.

Acceleration of 3D applications spell nvidia a lot more for me than Matrox. Again, this isn't from personal experience, I've never done that kind of stuff. Still you'd better be safe than sorry.

Also note that Dualhead or Twinview kinda sucks under Windows 2000. You might be better off with two video cards (ie keeping your old TNT2) in this case.

I have a G200, and I really want to upgrade.
Well, if Matrox don't release the G800 soon, I'm afraid I have to buy another card... a G400

                Dalbregor,

IMHO to meet all your needs (esp. multi-monitor support) your only choice is the

                G400!!

I tried a GF2 MX and 2D quality is the pits compared to a G400. Don't do it...your eyes will thank you!!!

Now if you are willing to make a sacrifice on the multi-monitor then go and read my post on my experiences with the ATI Radeon in the general hardware section. It is everything you asked for except:

                No multi-monitor support

You didn't mention OS...if Win98 then great. If Win2000 you should pass.

                Regards,

                Jeff
