  • After installing Matrox drivers for G200 in W2K, dialup runs everytime I boot up

I am running Windows 2000 Pro for an OS and was using the standard 2000 drivers for my plain old Millenium G200 when I needed to upgrade to the W2k514 to get a DVD problem fixed.
The installation went fine, and after I re-booted it asked me to register. Because I was working on some other projects and didn't have time, I said NO. Because of this, I think I created the problem in that it is always wanting to register me, because every time I boot up it wants to start up my dial-up account.

I unistalled the Matrox drivers and the problem went away, but the original W2k drivers were acting a little sluggish (shuttering/stuttering) so I decided to load the Matrox ones again. Drivers loaded fine and I was again asked if I wanted to register. This time I said YES and tried to register. Got the message that this service was not currently available at Matrox and that I should enter my email address and that I would be informed when I could register.

So here I sit with my PC wanting to dial my dial-up account everytime I reboot.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    1) Go Start->Programs->Startup and delete anything that shouldn't be there (right click over it to delete)

    2) Right click on your start button, go explore all users and have a look at what's in your Programs/Startup directory. Delete anything you don't want.

    3) Run regedit, go HKLM/Software/Micrsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run and delete anything you don't want starting automatically.

Well, it's half solved. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run I deleted Pdesk.exe /autolaunch and that took care of it wanting to autodial everytime I reboot.
Now it just wants to auto-dial everytime I right click on the desktop and bring up the monitor Properties, select Settings, click on Advanced, and select any of the monitor property tabs. I would assume this is starting Powerdesk which is still wanting to register.

Isn't there a tick box you can check on the registration screen so it doesn't bug you anymore?

Try dialling up, going to the powerdesk registration screen and checking it.

Hey, I have that problem too. The funny thing is, it does it even after I've dialed up. I already told it not to bother me about the registration, but it won't go away just the same. Very strange...
