  • G400 : 2D quality ok, but what's about 3D

    hello,

as you i usally read article that talk about G400 as the best card for 2D, but what's about 3D. G400 seems to be forgoten by those website.

Maybe have you ask yourself this question : Is the G400 a competitive card compared to recent GF, Radeon, .... ?

For 2 week a load the homeworld : cataclysm demo (the game is not yet avaible in France) and made some screenshots that i could compare to other player on homeworld cataclsym message board. Guess what ! the G400 as a amazing quality in 3D ! I'm not sure that's the case on all games, but for Homeworld it's sure.

I'm decide to make a little website to demonstrate the G400 capabilities. if i have enought time i will extend the screenshot to other games.

I like your efforts Barbarella. (and only hope that you are up to your handle. drool, drool.)

A suggestion...if the quality of the screenshots is noticeably better, perhaps you could provide some "side by side"(s) of a similar shot with another card in essentially the same settings.

This issue of 'visual quality' cannot be properly described by specs, which is why the spec chasers and benchmarkers are so hard to convince. But when you SEE it WITH YOUR EYES....there's nothing better.

      well,

in some way your right, but i made this website to show G400 capabilities. This is not a quality benchmark website.

If it were i would 100% agree with you, but it is not.

Through the screenshots people can see what can do a G400 or Matrox product (i have a G200 too and it's works fine too).

compared and benchmarked are a real work, a hard work and a long work, specialy if you compared quality.

For Image quality I'd like to add that Radeon actually beats the G400 in 3d. I had an G400 but have upgraded to a Radeon 64MB Vivo. Where you would see banding on a G400 you won't see it on a Radeon, due to higher internal precision. Even the colors look clearer on the Radeon.

                HedsSpaz :

                Game : Homeworld : cataclysm
                editor : Sierra

                hi humus,

it will be great if you can download the homeworld : cataclysm demo and make some screenshot. You will find on my website (url above) an article telling you how to set the game to best quality and taking screenshot.

The big difference are in textures when you zoom on a ship.

Be assured ... it does look better in any game.

                    Even benchmarks look better.

Btw, the shots you posted look gorgeous !

Thanx for your effort, it's very much apreciated.
