    About the Xeon; The Xeon 933 has only 256 KB of cache. IT IS A COPPERMINE CPU DIE, exactly like a Slot 1 coppermine; It just has a LARGER CARTRIDGE... a P3 933 and a P3 Xeon 933 with the same memory and chipset will perform the same on ANY TEST!

    And the G800 issue: just wait and see; you'll be very grateful on monday (but if there are terrorist actions on monday and the PR is delayed, please do not flame me...)
    What was necessary was done yesterday;
    We're currently working on the impossible;
    For miracles, we ask for a 24 hours notice ...

          Hey everyone, let's forget everything and focus on one thing; DREAMING; I imagine the Fedex guy knocking on my door 2 days after the G800 has been released with my two Millennium G800, a 64 MB and a 32 MB; I then remove my G400, insert the G800 in my little CUSL2-M's AGP-Pro slot, connect my two monitors, push the start button, click "cancel" when asked for the driver disk, format my hard drives, install Windows 2k+Me, install DirectX 8.0, then Powerdesk 6
          , Q3A, UT, HW:C, Evolva, CS, and then laugh at everybody who bought G2GTSs/G2GTSultras/Radeons, showing them you can get insane framerates with "My-jaw-dropped-through-the-table-then-hit-the-ground's-concrete-slab-which-immediatly-broke-in-two" image quality, at a very reasonnable price. It may be a (wet) dream, but I really hope Matrox can get their acts together and make a card with great image quality AND speed (read: G200), that is promptly available (read: G400) with stable and tweaked drivers (read: ICD), for a price even I can afford... (I work in a bar in montreal, and I make some pretty good bucks, for a university student (McGill+Allouettes RULEZ!!!) but I just cannot spend $800 on a card (read: Geforce 3...)). Let's go Matrox, you CAN(ADIAN) do it!!!

          By the way, I really like positive criticism, so feel free to comment...as long as you agree with me!!! (lol)

                The new Pentium III Xeon with larger on-die cache is called "Cascade", not Coppermine. The 2MB version contains about 140 million transistors.

                It is quite suitable for computing applications of large data sets, and large database query...

                  Beta boys == Matrox's hired help to me.

                  Imagine a web site called Beta Boys, and it gets advance beta versions of drivers over other web sites, advance video cards, possibly for free, and a direct line to Matrox marketing who tells them things like "It will be sooner that most of y'all think", but that's all. A bit more Machiavellian, but no different from NVIDIA's ploys along the same lines.

                    Sorry, I really didn'T know there were Xeons with 'only' 256KB L2 cache ... I thought they'd start at 512KB and would also be available with 1MB & 2MB.

                    Thanx for feedback !

                        Try to use a Coppermine in a 4-way SMP system... won't work.

                        Xeon core does support 4-way systems. Conclusion: Coppermine core != Xeon core

                          Let's put an end to that whole Xeon story once and for all; The P3 Xeons under 600 were a Katmaï OLGA on a Slot2 cartridge, and are available in 512KB, 1024KB and 2048KB external cache configuration, and that is what makes those so expensive; they are also refered to as Large Cache CPUs, and are the only P3 Xeons that support 4-way interleaved MP). All P3 Xeons over 600 MHz are made of a Coppermine OLGA package mounted on a Slot2 cartridge, and are currently (and for the near future) only available available with 256 kb ON-DIE cache, and THAT IS THE ONLY CACHE CONFIGURATION FOR XEONS OVER 600 MHZ...
                          The only CPU core currently produced by Intel are the Katmaï(P3 Xeons Large Cache), the Coppermine (P3, Celeron >=566, P3 Xeons >=600, Mobile Celeron >=450 and Mobile P3) and the Williamette (P4 1.4-1.5 GHz). Those high-speed P3 Xeons (>=600 MHZ) only support single or dual configuration and are much less expensive than their Large Cache couterparts, even though they are MHz-faster: for exemple, a P3 Xeon 733 is about 10% more expensive than a P3 733, only because of the added cost of the Slot2 cartridge, where a P3 Xeon 550 is about 700-800% more expensive than a P3-550 (Katmaï+half-speed L2 cache)... I hope that this clears everything. And, isn't this a Matrox hardware thread??? Let's hear some of your Condor II rumors here guys!!!

                            About Cascade:

                            The Cascade die is not even fabbed yet...
                            But it will support 4-way interleaved MP, just like the Katmaï-based P3 Xeons or the Deschutes-based P2 Xeons do
