I rebooted and Win 2000 detected a new device (standard VGA card) i pointed it back to the new drivers and it said "error, cannot find file, your video card may not run correcly"
You shouldn't have done that. When it wants to install the Standard VGA driver let it do so. You'll install the G400 drivers later on with matrox's setup.exe. Let auto-detection install as VGA. Insert your Windows 2000 CD and point it there when it's asking for the drivers.

Also make sure you have set up your monitor correctly. (in windows at the least, you'll need that anyway for the matrox monitor customization to work)

FYI, both installs found a VGA card, not a G400.... not really a good sign.
That isn't a bad sign either. It only says Microsoft didn't supply even basic drivers for the G400 neither in Win2000 nor in WinMe. Which is true. So this is normal.

Unfortunately I have no idea what's going on there with your AGP/PCI1 not working properly. (They are connected though, always sharing the same IRQ, so both of them malfunctioning at the same time isn't that surprising.)

I too have a WinMe here which was installed over 98SE. The 610 drivers installed without a hitch over 604, I even installed DX8 today.

I would try the Reset escd information or whatever it's called in the BIOS.

Also try pressing pause while your system is booting and shows the device listing. Check what IRQ your G400 is assigned to there.

Grr yup the new drivers did toast my Bios. Luckily I got two machines so I could download the recovery program and do the biz with that.
I've now upgraded to the latest bios which fixes "restarting problems" which in my case become a permanent problem. So if anyone else has this prob after using the newest drivers I would suggest upgrading your bios.
