I'm running Dx8 on W2000. Have noticed that UT is a lot smoother now.

There is still a problem though if you enable EAX or 3D Surround in UT. This is an issue with the SoundBlaster Live and hoped they had fixed it... but no. This is what causes my framerates to drop like Tronic has mentioned. Turning the eax and 3d surround off and restarting UT fixes this.

Under Windows 2000, DirectX 8 does not provide that big of a performance increase without optimized drivers. It does, however provide a performance increase due to the fact they fixed lots and lots of bugs in the DX7 W2K release.

Did test the 5.20 drivers against it when they were released, and didn't see any problems.

        Oh Yeah,

Have installed the 5.20 drivers for W2000 and they are a lot better. Window maximizing finally works correctky for dual screens.

Messages boxes in the VB ide are still split across both displays which was listed as being fixed in the release notes. That sucks but am used to it.

Also, applications like SQL enterprise manager now start as expected (Maximized in last display) instead of not showing at all until disabling Maxview.

A couple people mentioned DXDiag messing up their stretched wallpapers.

What I would like to know is, exactly what is it doing, and how recoverable is it?

          Thanks a lot,

Never heard about that, but then again i'm not lazy enough to use streched wallpaper. I always grab photoshop and adjust/retouch it w/ that. Looks much better =)

Well for a while I *thought* DirectX 8 "final" was working fine. But now I find that since installing it Win98SE will only recognize my joystick connection sporadically. (CH Flightstick Pro connected thhrough Diamond MX 300 using Aureal Vortex 2 reference drivers 2048).

Sometimes when I boot the joystick is there and works flawlessly, but most of the time there is "no connection". Removing and reinstalling sound card drivers and joystick does not solve the problem.

I'm looking for tips from anyone with experience successfully removing DX 8 "final" so I can go back to 7a.

Do a search for "directx uninstaller". it should work. make sure they say it does tho.
