  • Matrox news that leans toward dissapointment

    On AnandTech's news page:

"Matrox is back to focusing on the corporate side of things (for now...)"

I think that it may mean that for COMDEX Matrox isn't showing anything exciting, but they will a bit later.

Anyway, I have taken Matrox out of the equation. I am eagerly waiting for nv20. When it's time to upgrade my video card, if the g800 is out I will consider it based on its merits, but I do no longer plan my purchases based on faint hopes. I have considered waiting for the gf2 Ultra to come down in price, but performance is not all. So I am waiting for the next generation.

That said, I wish that Matrox would release a TV card that worked with other video cards. I really like my friend's Margel g200 and my bro just got himself a Marvel g400. They are nice :-)

          I think it's a bet.

Option 1: They made a little bet in matrox just to test how long will it take for us to lose faith in them.

Option 2: Matrox had a bet with nVIDIA/ATi that they'll wait till all of us go and but a non matrox card, then they'll release the G800 and see of we dump our new card and shell out more money for the G800.

There are many possible sadistic ideas, you just have to choose the right one for you. The possibility for it to be true currently stands at 76.21% according to my caclulations.

Just 1 little thing to think about, the G400 was released around the same time the TnT2 and the Rage128 have been released, since then at least one generation of chips has emerged (Geforce xxx, Radeon, VSA100), are you trying to tell me that all this time was spent developing the G450 ??? Yeah, sure...
Since everybody else already have new chips out in the open, you should ask yourself what is taking matrox so long ? Like Scott Adams said, ask yourself "What is more likely ?" 1. they had so many problems with the new chip they still didn't solve out the majority of them. or 2. Some1 at matrox is a real psycho___ ? Logic says that if by comdex we don't hear about a new chip, option 1 starts to be "not so logical". if by christmas, option 2 starts to sem quite logic. If by Cebit we don't see anything new from matrox, well, no option is relevant cause they're already dead and burried.
          Simple logic my friends.

Well I go with G450 is making a nice profit - letting them prepare for an assault on NVIDIA where ATi and 3dfx look to be failing.

It'll be harder to fight NVIDIA without 3dfx and ATi competing too however

But you are all forgetting, in this "fight against nvidia" that the graphics card industry is SO volatile that a little company like 3dfx can become an industry-leading company in a matter of a year or two. nVidia is a newcomer, too. All it takes is one good product. Remember that.

Heck, Bitboys could even become an industry leading company... well... if they ever had a product. Heh.

I hate to post on this topic (G800), but in my opinion, the delay in announcing the new card line can be viewed as very exciting. All this implies to me is they are working on a card that is very advanced and difficult to work out. A fast release would only mean they haven't advanced the state of the art significantly. They are doing something which requires alot of research and development time. Sounds promising to me.

What does this delay in the G800 mean for the launch of the G1600? That's the one to watch for, trust me.

Maybe the holdup for the G800 is the FCRAM, does anyone know if this memory tech is being mass produced now or in the near future? All I have to say is if Matrox doesn't make any annocments about the G800 by the Spring time, I'm going to be looking for a new Video card manufacture...I'm very dissapointed with the way Matrox is doing business.

Lets see after a year of the introduction of the G400, we get pretty much the same video card tweaked a bit(G450), without any major performance improvements. How long did it take for the G250 to come out after the G200 was out? 6 months or something?
