  • Autocad and G450/G400?

I'm building a computer for a person who uses Autocad regularly. Do you guys think a G450 would work optimally for this? Or would something else be better?

I was told 32MB Video RAM is good for AutoCAD, is this true? Does it really matter?

    Thanks.

I use ACAD daily on my G450.
    Pure DualHead joy.
These cards are perfectly suited to this type of work.
The amount of video memory is not crucial, unless your friend is doing textured rendering. If he/she is only doing 2D CAD, a 16meg card would suffice, but I would still suggest the 32meg version, as the price difference isn't all that big, and the extra megs might be useful for other things...

      Thanks Kruzin.

      I'll go with the 32MB.

But what if you were doing texture rendering? Would the G450/G400Max be sufficient. See, I also am building a PC for my friend who does use CAD and stuff, and some people think that I should get one of those nVidia things. What do you think?
And like would it be better to get a Athlon or a Pentium? Dual CPU?

I think unless you are doing mostly 3D rendering, there is no ifs ands or buts. Dualhead is simply the way to go. Twinview is similar, but not near as capable, especially in driver customizations.

If you are going to be doing 3D rendering with textures, get the 32meg. The extra ram will help there.
And nothing beats DualHead for CAD.

inyafase: What will the PC be used for? CAD and stuff yes, but what is stuff? And how much CAD?

If it's a 'serious' work PC then go Matrox! If you just plain want a vibrant high-quality display output then Matrox! Dual monitors is Matrox owned. 3D rendering...it will suffice if you aren't doing extremely intensive work.

How about 3D Studio MAX? Will the G4xx suffice?
