Have you tried sending him an email?
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

Venturer : make sure u save a backup copy of ur bios, or get the recover.zip ? file from matrox and let it do the job for u ..
then do watever to ur bios ..if somethin goes wrong .. u can go back .. even if u don't have a pic on ur screen .. just make sure ur a: drive is ur 1st boot device .. put ur backup or recovery disk in .. and it'll program the bios back
but don't get my word on it

I think i can t recover the option byte, because it s one of the items stored in a different location of the BIOS that can t be dumped!

            I ve solved the problem!!!!!!

Who want to enable signon message in every Matrox board follow this procedure:

-First run MXINFO and read the value of the option byte at the end of 3 screen (my option byte value was 44)
-Download the lastest matrox BIOS; then go to DOS real mode (in WIN ME use DOS REAL mode patch) and type
PROGBIOS -b OPTION,1,val where val is the value of your option byte plus 1: e.g PROGBIOS -b OPTION,1,45
-Reboot and signon message had to be enabled.

            This because:
The value of the first bit of the OPTION byte controls the SIGNON message (0 is disabled; 1 is enabled)!
44 in bin is 00101100; if you change the bit 0 of the OPTION Byte from 0 to 1 the byte became
            00101101 that it s 45 value

REMEBER TO SAVE YOUR BIOS BEFORE TRYING THIS OPERATION AND DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

So my original question stills stands: What is the sign-on message?

                    69???
I tried with 45 and MXINFO tells me that signon is enabled but i can't see it during boot!

However i tought MXINFO shows bytes values in decimal not in hex.
Thx for your advice; now i ll try again with 69!

Thx GREG; correctly enabled with 69 and now MXINFO reports 45 as byte value in hex.

But Jorden wrote it depends from short-sync of the monitor, so i think i had to see it during reboot when the signal is already syncronized!

errrm, I said you might see it, if there were still a sign-on message in the card (which I doubt there is?). Then again, I trust Greg when he says there's nothing to see

                            Sorry for not answering...

Your solution is almost correct. MXINFO displays in hex, while PROGBIOS wants decimal values. So 44 hex makes 68 decimal. Adding 1 for signon makes it 69 decimal, so 69 is the correct value to supply to PROGBIOS.

                              you actually don't see it!!!

mxinfo sais signon message is enabled on my g400, but it isn't seen anytime. probably it's too short.
