No shit Matt! But at least we have one thing to hold on to... when it does come out, alot of people around here will be eating crow.

Pass the ketchup, please. I'm hungry!

        I WANT TO EAT CROW!

        Crow l'orange
        Crow under glass
        Crow and rice
        Kentucky Fried Crow
        Crow McNuggets
        Crow Parmigiana
Crow Picata (tender breast of crow sauteed with capers in a spicy lemon sauce)
Crow Marsala (tender breast of crow and mushrooms sauteed in marsala wine)

Crow sounds like a spendid Xmas meal.

LOL Paul, Maybe we should start a "Crow" thread to replace cheese.

Does look like it's going to get tiresome to have to put up with all of the "OHH NOOO" BS that will be populating these forums until Matrox finally does make some kind of official announcement, or someone is allowed to leak.

Frankly, I'd take a good leak right now.

This whole situation is depressing. I've had bad luck in the past with ATI and drivers(even my Matrox experience hasn't bugged me as much as the driver problems ATI had a few years back). I also dislike the frames per second in quake being more important over innovation, and the tendancy of companies to call minor updates a "version 2". Geforce 2 vs Geforce. Big difference? I don't see it. ATI is my only choice right now, since I dislike Nvidia. I love my Matrox G100, 200, and 400 cards, but let's face it, the lack of any hype or communication has left me cold. I can't get excited about a product that will never be released. I make enough so $300 for a new vid card doesn't bother me. Why should I stay loyal to Matrox when I don't know when I can get a decent upgrade to my G400 MAX?

Tastes just like chicken! But it's sometimes a bit hard to swallow, and it can leave a bitter aftertaste.

Lets do a little logic here.

                    Reality check, my friends.

                    Where we stand is here:

                    *M has been raided.

                    *This creates delays.

*M OWNS the code and knowledge base behind their technology.

*They will NEVER succeed in owning nVidia, but they can cause them delays.

*nVidia will attempt to co-opt Matrox's technology, and will be challenged at every attempt.

*This will create delays for them as well.

*NVidia will continue to push forward with speed-demon incremental inprovements that mean nothing other than a small improvements in FPS increases that have nothing to do with real-world useability.

In the meantime, M will rebuild, continue to suport it's customer base, continue to produce cards that make computers more useful and useable, and will alongside all of this continue to develop technology and features that will MATTER to users of computing machines!!

Given the development cycle described above, and all of the human effort that is necessary, you are looking at a response (in silicon) in the third quarter of 2001.

No inside knowledge here, just pure logic.

Get used to it. Buy something else (hopefully cheap and fast) in the meantime. And wait...or go elsewhere.

Stay tuned though, and come back when the silicon is on the market.

It will be because it's smart to do so for a company that depends on OEM's promoting them as a premium solution.

Tim, still happy with his G200, doing work and enjoying his machine.

Now go enjoy your $150 NV XXXX for the next few months. Or spend more of your hard-earned money if you really need to.

I'd like to believe that matrox really has something that will be able to go the distance with whatever nvidia will have available next year but with all the momentum and recources that nvidia has going for it right now and even more so with all the help it's getting from microsoft(not just money wise, but at the engineering level too),i just don't see that happening(not in the near term anyway).

I think that by now, most people here have read this article, but i'll post it anyways.

                      www.zdnet.co.uk/news/2000/46/ns-19260.html .

Needless to say,if those specs are anywhere near real,it sure isn't just an small incremental speed boost compared to the gf2 ultra and adds several new features to boot.
                      note to self...

Assumption is the mother of all f***ups....

                      Primary system :
P4 2.8 ghz,1 gig DDR pc 2700(kingston),Radeon 9700(stock clock),audigy platinum and scsi all the way...

                        History is the indicator here.

Wish these guys well, and hope that I am wrong...like PaulCS, I suspect that much of my prior post has to do with a fear of being disappointed.

History says that something really innovative, useful, fast, and "of value to advancement of the technology" is on the horizon.

I will gladly eat crow if it comes sooner than August (Q3 2001), but if it comes then, and comes RIGHT, all will be well.

If it comes sooner, NO ONE will be happier than I, so that we can move on to dealing with USERS who want answers to questions.
