  • G 450eTV - Realtime Compression

    I want to buy a G 450eTV.
    Can I capture mpeg2 realtime ?

Is there no time after capturing to compress ?

How little is 1 hour movie-file (Mbyte) ?
    What compressions-rates are available (1:X)?
I´m from Germany, can I buy the card in USA ?
    How much it cost ?

    Thanks for your answer.

    Hi Jockel,
    http://www.matrox.com/mga/products/m...0_etv/home.cfm

should offer any info that you need and here's a short review: http://www.matrox.com/mga/archive_re...50_pcworld.cfm

and a flash demo about the eTV can be found here: http://www.matrox.com/mga/news/demos.../marv_demo.cfm

According to Matrox, you'd need a 600MHz CPU for MPEG2 capturing, so what are your system specs ?

    Cheers,
    Maggi

That CPU power is only for half res. The cpu power to capture for full res is still not fixed yet but so far, we are looking at atleast on an 800 if not higher.

        Haig,

Could you point out some of the features that would make someone buy this over the Radeon AIW? Maybe you can clarify these points:

        Feature/AIW/G450e

        Dual monitor no yes
        Web video stream ?? yes
        Guide+ yes no
        S/PDIF yes ??

What other differences should I be looking at?

        Thanks,
        Steve

          Hi Steve,

here's what's included with our card with regards to the video portion of the card:

          Dual monitor

          yes

          Web video stream

This isn't dependant on the card. As long as you have a card with a video input or have a usb cam, you can do it. We are currently running a video server in tech supp with the Marvel G400 but you can do it with any card.

          Guide+

          Not determined yet.

          S/PDIF

          No

What other differences should I be looking at?

          - Ulead video studio 4 will bundled.
          - We are hoping to get win2k capture drivers ready out of the box.
          - timeshifting
          - Cinemaster 2000 engine dvd player.
          - Our tech supp puts theirs to shame

If this matters...then most of the rest will not. If you need a particular feature that doesn't exist.......?????

              Hi Haig,

Is the encoder multithreaded (ie will it take advantage of multiple processor machines).

              Thanks,

              Paul

And will it have the "Render Subjects Nude" feature I've been asking for for the last two years.

Nope. The ligos encoder won't take advantage of multiple CPU's.

PaulCS - Hehe, you won't get that with the 450 series.

                      Thanks for all answers, thanks.

                      1. to the last theme (multithreaded): Paul, I hope you know about taking software from the internet, search the lingos encoder, download it ( and crack it) : Noone had hear I ´ve say about cracking.
                      2. to the first theme( ATI AllInWonder against Matrox G450eTV):
I want to name another card: hauppauge WinTV PVR
I have asked around me about these cards and got these:

                      Matrox ATI Hauppauge
                      Ram(MB) 16/32? 16/32DDR ???
                      RamDAC(MHz) 360 ? ?
                      3D-gaming best,I hope good no
                      timeshifting yes yes yes
                      capture mpeg2 realtime:yes yes yes
capture rt on CD-R? ? yes
                      compression rates
                      (Mbits/s) ? ? ?
                      BT878chip ? ? ?
                      system requirements 600/800 PII/PIII 300/450
                      (half size/full size in MHz)
                      cost:250 USD;have anyone better information ?

I hope YOU can fill it and correct it.

Why is the system requirement so hight at the Matrox; it is the fast card or not ?

                      What´s IPB-Compression and what´s I-frame compression?
Matrox called it also IB or IP in the RT2000-site, what is it?

Can somebody name more cards capturing mpeg2 realtime ?

The Hauppage WinTV-PVR is no comparison as it does mpeg enc/dec all in hardware where we are doing enc/dec in software.

You can read about it here:
                            http://www.hauppauge.com/html/wintvpvr_datasheet.htm

Becuase we are using a software codec, you would need a 600Mhz CPU to capture half size (including timeshifting).

To capture full size, it isn't confirmed yet internally but you will need at least an 800Mhz cpu. This will most likely change to a higher CPU speed.
