Is this worth the money?

Hi,

I currently have a PII 350/128 with a Mystique G200 and a Voodoo2 add-on card. I'm tired of playing games in 16bit at 800*600 so I'm wondering if a G450 is worth getting.
I play a lot of UT and with my voodoo I get playable framerates. Do you think framerates would still be playable with a G450 in 32bit at at least 1024*768? Or do I need a G400 MAX for that?

I doubt you'll see much of a difference, the G400 might even be slower.

UT is fastest in Glide and the G400 needs a fast processor to work best. I'm surprised you can run at 800x600, thats the res that I use for UT in Win2k (32bit colour tho).

I would also recommend getting a faster cpu before buying a g450, then after the cpu save your money for the g800

You could also get a less cpu-dependant card, although I'd rather get the bigger processor which will benefit you in every program not just games.

Hey Raptor, I get about 30-40fps on average in UT at 800*600.

I'm with everyone here. If you were to stick with that CPU, I'd recommend getting a Voodoo3 and sticking with 16-bit gaming.

You can get an 800 MHz PIII for about $200.00. Upgrade your CPU and almost everything your computer does will be done faster. At 350 MHz, your CPU will frequently be a bottleneck. At 800 MHz, your Mystique will be a bottleneck. I think it's better to have a fast computer with one slow part than a slow computer with one fast part.

Hehe, I'm in that club. This CPU is a good 11 months old, and I'm thinking about replacing (but holding out for a DDR board). I can't decide if I should wait for DDR or buy another 128MB for this. $90 is a lot of money for me.

You can get a 32mb G400 for ~$100 USD online. It might not be faster, but it'll sure as hell look a ton better!
