I was in IRC earlier today and this happened

    <WereWo|f> anyone around?
*** therealDenty|Cracker is now known as DentyC

    *** WereWo|f sets mode: +v MrsCamaroLuvr
    <Nemo> i am
    <Nemo> sort of
<WereWo|f> well Hi there nemo, you heard the news about 3dfx?
    *** m0rbid^ang3l sets mode: +l 50

    <Nemo> revenues down 15 %
    <Nemo> ?
    <WereWo|f> no
    <DentyC> nVidia bought them
    <WereWo|f> they are CLOSED
<<WereWo|f> they dissolved and sold the remaining shares to Nvidia
    <DentyC> yup
    <Nemo> NO WAy!?
    <WereWo|f> ya way
<GhOsTFaCe-> >The Red Rum's FTP is up, to get my server information type (!Ghostface) (Have Over 20 Movies On My FTP Site) [Dark Asylum]<
    <lsd> good luck nemo
<WereWo|f> go to Nvidia.com its on thier 1st page
    <Nemo> thanks druggie
    <lsd> anytime
<DentyC> Paul change your nick now
    <Nemo> ****ING SHITS!
    <DentyC> u r late nemo
<WereWo|f> I think its kinda shitty though, as much as I'm not a fan of voodoo its not a good thing for consumers.
    <Nemo> what denty?
    <DentyC> yep its shitty
    <<DentyC> the 3dfx stuff
<WereWo|f> ya I seen it yesterday..
<WereWo|f> Under the terms of the agreement, NVIDIA will pay to 3dfx a total consideration of $70 million in cash and 1 million shares of common stock.
<Nemo> they didn't go out of business
    *** WereWo|f sets mode: +v OnyxWolf
<Nemo> just sold out to nvidia
    <WereWo|f> no man
    <WereWo|f> the NEWS
<WereWo|f> said they dissolved all assets
<WereWo|f> which means anything that was worth anything was taken by the owners
    *** Denty|Cracker has joined #evilwarez
<WereWo|f> then what was left was sold to Nvidia
    <Nemo> oh ****
<DentyC> nVidia was started by a bunch of ex 3dfx employees anyway
<WereWo|f> that means there the company was torn to nothing left all Nvidia bought was a name and a design basically
    <DentyC> bad management
<Nemo> this means that we will have to pay out the ****ing nose for 3d cards now
    <WereWo|f> no
<WereWo|f> cause ATI is actually "supposed" to be making the fastest 3d accelorator on the market right now
    <WereWo|f> theres still competition
    <Nemo> not as much though
<WereWo|f> the new Radeon is apparently KILLING GeForce 2
<GhOsTFaCe-> >The Red Rum's FTP is up, to get my server information type (!Ghostface) (Have Over 20 Movies On My FTP Site) [Dark Asylum]<

<WereWo|f> I would like to see that for myself before I say its deffinately true, but from what I'm seeing people want the radeon over geforce and for good reason
<Nemo> WereWo|f what are they selling at
    <WereWo|f> how much you mean?
    <WereWo|f> All-In-Wonder Radeon 32MB Retail Box $435
<WereWo|f> thats canadian with tv-in tv-out mpeg compression blah blah blah blah
    <WereWo|f> Radeon 64MB DDR OEM $399
<DentyC> I am afraid of ATI
<WereWo|f> I have an ATI now
<WereWo|f> but I would trade it for an Nvidia or a 3dfx card right now if someone would trade
    <WereWo|f> even an old one
<WereWo|f> if your not a gamer, I would recommend ATI because thier mpeg playback and 2d graphics have always been on top of the market..but gamers stay away...thats been my experience anyway.
    <DentyC> my Video Card is a G400
<WereWo|f> that things a problem DentyC
<DentyC> Matrox has the best 2D by far
<WereWo|f> there were ALOT of issues when that came out...
    <DentyC> what EzCD?
<Nemo> i gotta go to work
    <Nemo> laters
    <DentyC> ok
    <WereWo|f> no way man
    <WereWo|f> not even comparible
    <DentyC> LOf'nL
    <WereWo|f> matrox is like S3
    <DentyC> Matrox best 2D
<WereWo|f> they make cards for people who cant afford a real card
    <DentyC> no way dude

    <DentyC> I don't need more than 45 Fps in ut at 800x600
    <DentyC> that's what I get with my G400
    <WereWo|f> thats not 2d 1st off
<DentyC> I know that but I was just making another point
<<WereWo|f> as far as color textures in 2d and mpeg playback I know ATI gets the best scores by far, even over GeForce...the old Rage 128 chip was better and the radeon makes the 128 look like shit
<DentyC> but seriously I have used many ATI and Matrox cards and there is no comparison
    <WereWo|f> ya agreed there isnt
<DentyC> the Matrox card is much better in 2D
<WereWo|f> ati kills matrox, matrox is for people who cant afford a good video card, sorry to break the news
    <WereWo|f> alright
<DentyC> much sharper and it gets better for Matrox as the resolution increases
    <WereWo|f> LOL thats funny
<DentyC> have you used any Matrox cards at all on a good 19 or 21 inch monitor
<WereWo|f> cause if you look anywhere talking about ati cards it says everywhere how strange it is how much better it does at 32 bit then 16 bit when all the other cards seem to die under 32bit
<WereWo|f> your monitor makes all the difference
<DentyC> if you have then you'd be saying the same thing that I am unless your eyes are fuXx0r3d
<DentyC> that 32 bit that ur talking about is 3D
<WereWo|f> well I disagree beceause I know better man, if your poor and want decent graphics buy matrox or s3..however if you wanna see some real graphics and colors dont waste your money...you can argue all day, but I'm gonna let it rest now
<DentyC> You still havent answered my Q
    <<WereWo|f> LOL

    Unbelievable
Easy.. People equate 3D performance with Quality.. They automatically Assume that since it's really fast and can render all these great features, such as T&L and other Buz words, that it must look good too...

Most people that see a running G400 will atleast mention the sharpness, and color quality is better... But Clarity isn't important to the FPS frame counter...

    such as life,
I use what works for me, DH beats a single monitor any day....

I run into this all the time. I get "Matrox sucks!" all the time playing in CS and TFC when asked what video card I have. Some nVidiot believed his GeForce had superior 2D and 3D image quality (HAHAHA!).

no way man ..! I have both cards G400 32SH & CreativeLabs Gforce2MX DDR & belive me G400 has much superior visual quality i.e. 2D or in 3D..the MX has something they called Digita VIBRANCE what should be something like MATROX color VIBRANT..but its not even near to Matrox VIBRANT coloring..& to say just that Gforce2MX DDR is a hell fast Vcard D3D or OGL no matter...but in 32bit it suffers over 50% of perfrmance hit...I realy would like to see a MATROX product with the speed of Gforce2 & the Quality of MATROX!

          Same here
It's unbelievable. People just don't seem to understand the term "image quality". When I say that the Matrox image quality is way better than that of a GeForce, I get: "yeah right, GeForce has FSAA and can run faster at higher resolutions, hence GeForce's image quality is better".
          AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH

I just can't stand it. When I try to explain exactly what I mean they go: "Sure, send me a screenshot then". Gee.... then I have to try to explain that taking a screenshot with a Matrox card will look just as bad if you look at it on a GeForce. Idiots!

belive me my MATROX USERS friends you realy dont miss that FSAA stuff it dosnt work with GF2MX or GTS ether..

            FSAA..LoL ,my o my ..what a lie..!!!!

              ???

              FSAA is not a lie.

Works perfectly. It's slow because they are still working on it. But heck. With 4xFSAA on my Geforce 2 64M in Quake 3 *I think* I was getting around 30fps. (80fps with NO FSAA). Heck, that's still a whole 9 fps faster than my ol' G400. I know it's nice to feel all safe and cozy about your G400 but geesh get your facts straight. Don't diss what you don't have.

I think about the only way G4x cards can stay around for another year tops is if Matrox implements HSR for their current cards. If that happens Murcers should be able to pass by this year in current games until the G800 comes out.

aaaaaaaaaa yaaaaaaa! the mighty GF2 with 64mb has aperformace drop of over 50 FPS???...& if you get around 30fps ..pleas tell me you LOWEST fps??????????...if you get around 30 fps then I think the lowes will be around 15 fps...as you say in Q3..try UT..

with FSAA enabled UT looks horrible...dont knowe why... its not only the HUGE performance drop its visual too..

so I say its a dam LIE because if it has this option it should be able to use it all the time WITHOUT any performance drop...

                  Borg,

why do you keep yelling? Is it because your arguments are so weak?

I admit, I don´t know anything about the Creative MX card, but I have had two (2) Asus 7100 MX, and my experience with these are the best. Visual quality in 2D is at least as good as my G400 32mb DH, even at 1600x1200x32 (my 19" won´t go higher), and in 3D the G400 is way behind in picture quality (and several of my games won´t run in 32 bpp with G400).
FSAA doesn´t do much good, if any, in FPS games. But in a flightsim you will have a whole new experience compared to "noAA".

Bottom line: either Creative can´t make decent cards, or you are having trouble setting it up properly.

FSAA does make big difference to the amount of jaggies that you see on screen.

When I replaced my G400MAX qith a GF2 Ultra, I fired up Half-Life in max res with OpenGL and looked at some 'straight edges'. When I viewed the edges from an angle the jaggies were quite obvious.

I then turned FSAA upto max and went back to look at the same point. The jaggies had almost vanished. The game was still perfectly smooth (didn't do any FPS tests, but it felt just as quick).

I have since turned it down to halfway as playing online I don't notice the scenary as much and the extra processing time is better spent elsewhere.

With regards to the image quality, I haven't noticed any real drop in quality. I use an iiyama 17" monitor at 1280x1024x32 and it's fine. If I did high res graphics work then maybe I would, but my uses, it's fine.
