  • dual monitors for fun and aggravation!

Blew the dust off the ol' Voodoo 3 2000 PCI(actually, it was in a static baggie, it had no dust) and popped it in a waiting slot. Now this is the first time for me fooling with dual displays. I just did this 20 minutes ago.
    Some notes:

It's fun to have two different websites display at the same time, or to drag various objects over to the second display. Routine office work takes on a pleasant efficiency, with spreadsheet and data entry info on different tubes.

However, the Quake games blow chunks. The D3D games blow chunks. It seems they are all calling on the V3, even though the Millenium G400 is the specified primary display. Of course, this is still my first boot with this config, OS is W2K.

Another weird thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else is that the Matrox card takes IRQ 11, which is normal and proper, but the V3 PCI card's resource use shows no IRQ assignment at all. The full listing of system IRQs shows no mention of it whatsoever.

Check to see if there are any 3DFX miniGLs in the game directories. However, this doesn't apply to D3D games, only the Quake-based ones.

I think all new AGP cards now use an IRQ but I may be mistaken about that.

        Any one?

My V3 would work with or without an IRQ. So, it's possible to have it not take one.

Went digging in the BIOS, and sure enough, after installation of the V3, it had defaulted to "Init display first: PCI slot"

Changed this to "Init display first: AGP", and the gaming problems are solved.

Just glad it was something simple!
