  • Terminal Problem with G400

Dunno if anyone will be able to help with this but any feedback would be much appreciated.

It would appear that my G400 has officially stuffed itself Just upgraded to a new 1Ghz Athlon, put my G400 in everything workign fine untill installing the Drivers for the G400. and then everything went tit's up!. Basically when booting into windows with the drivers installed I get the same effect that you get when you overclock a gfx card a bit too high... the desktop get's a little distorted to the point of not being able to see anything. Anyhoo this seems to happen only when the G400 drivers have been installed. It's fine in safe mode or using standard VGA drivers... Grrr!

I've tried it in another machine running Win2K and it just blue screens before I get to the interface but again only when the drivers are installed.
I've tried all the releases of drivers I could find and still the same... I've tried flashing the BIOS on the GFX card with the origonal and two other versions 1.6 and 1.9 I 'think' and still the same
Sounds dodgy but is there anyway of re-setting a G400 so that it will reaload some sort of processor defualts or somethign incase a register has screwed itself over?

    Anyhoo here's the basic spec.
    G400 32MB DH
    1Ghz Athlon
    128MB PC100
    WinME

    Thanks

Did you upgrade the motherboard as well, or just replace the cpu?

If you just replaced the cpu, suspect your power supply. I could run a peltier with my 750, but now with my ghz cpu on my 300w power supply.

If you replaced the mb, then you've got a ton of other problems to look at..

Yeah I upgraded the motherboard as well. That 2nd machine that I mentioned is basically the old system but with Win2K installed on it.... and I'm getting side effects there too..
The 'new' Motherboard is a ABit KT7-Raid. (I know, I know there are TONS on problems with this board but the G400 should work fine..) I've tried all the obvious things, checking out see if there are any incompatabilities and stuff as well as trying a range of different 4in1 drivers for the VIA chipset and still nothing.. Actually I've got another machine kicking around. with an older Motherboard that I had when I 1st got he G400... I'll try installing Win98 on there and see what it says......

        Hi!

I got the ABIT-KT7-Raid too but with an 800MHz Duron
instead. My G400DH32MAX works fine under Win98, NT4,
Linux and Solaris 8. I think I pushed some settings already
to the limit - still working fine... And I even did the same thing:
I replaced the CPU and Mobo and ran into trouble until I fully
completed the installation of the drivers.
        I must admit - I didn't make any experiences with Win2K
and WinME yet, but: Did you install all the AGP stuff - if necessary - (before) the MGA-drivers? By default, as far as
I know, there is no "native" support for the AGP feature in
Windows for the ABIT-KT7-Raid-Mobo (at least for Win98 and NT4).

        Hope this helps!
