Description: The ASIC Hardware Designer is part of a design team creating custom design VLSI chips (ASICs) for graphic and/or multimedia accelerators. The design focus is on one/several of the following: Data Flow Design ( fast multipliers, filter design, 3D rendering pipelines, pixel and IDCT pipelines), Video Encoder/Decoder Design (NTSC/PAL encoders/decoders, IEEE 1394 fireWire, USB), Complex State Machine Design (Super scaler concepts, VLIW technologies, multi and parallel processing, data compression/decompression, MPEG II, AC3, MPEG II audio, 3D sound, 3D geometry pipelines) Display Pipeline Design (speed pixel pipelines (+220Mhz), realtime video composting, real-time multi-surface composting and pixel decompression). Responsibilities include: (1) accurately specifying the functionality, performance and implementation of the hardware; (2) designing, simulating, debugging and synthesizing designs to meet aggressive clock rates; (3) ensuring testability goals are met; (4) assisting with validation of prototypes and developing test vectors; and (5) supporting the teams efforts in meeting challenging schedule goals.
Qualification: A Bachelor or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Microelectronics. Knowledge of "C" programming knowledge and UNIX is required. Familiarity with one/several of the following areas is an asset (but not mandatory): VHDL, Verilog,CAD tools such as Cadence, Mentor, Sunrise or Synopsys.
