  • Website locks up IE5: G400 to blame?

Fellow G400 users, I need some help.

Whenever I go to the website www.speedguide.net, IE locks up (not responding). I have to ctrl-alt-del to 'end task' it. VERY rarely it has worked; but refreshing it kills it again. This is the only site I've come across that demonstrates this problem. If I turn off auto-load images, though, the site loads fine (just ugly/hard to navigate without any pictures). Where do you think is the malfunction? I have tried every IE version 5+ and every patch available without success.

I asked in an MSIE group; they said it was a video driver problem.

I'm using: G400DH + IntelBX + 98SE. I'm currently using the 6.21 drivers, although I have had this problem with previous versions too. Does anybody with a similar setup have this problem?

Whoever said it was a video card driver problem was grabbin at straws big time.

The page loads fast, and without errors for me.

Actually, a while ago (many months ago), my system locked up too when trying to connect there. However, I've only noticed it once. I had Win98, on a 56k (DSL now), but that's all I remember.

I had no problems with the site either.

Sporatically, IE 5.01 locks up on me when I hit an FTP site. Ususally, if I just wait, it unlocks. If I get impatient, and hit ctrl-alt-del, I'll often get the "not responding" error message. I've had particular problems with Abit's FTP site.

I'm using a BX board and Windows 98SE too.

www.speedguide.net locks up my system too!
Boom: Looks like our systems have nothing in common except the G400DH and 6.21 drivers.

            Regards.

And... the bug that's causing your problem, which isn't related to Matrox drivers or the cards.

Paul, you can fix the FTP hang problem by turning off the Profile Assistant.

IE > Tools > Options > Advanced > Uncheck Enable Profile Assistant.

I think it has more to do with their web page design. For the users who are able to view the page, is there anything "special" about the main page ? Flash ? Applet ?? Anything unusual ???

                      Regards.

No, nothing special at all. I just accessed the site with no problem, using a G400Max on a BX system, PD 6.21 under Win2K SP1.

Have you tried clearing your cache?

                          Thanks Orange Julius.

I never considered my G400 to be the problem.
