How to recover a dead G450 Bios? recover.zip does NOT work

Hi folks,

got one G450LE with a dead bios here.

Just downloaded the latest 'recover.zip' from Matrox. Booting with this disk shows the following output on screen:

Unknown MGA Device ID: 519
Found G400 AGP
Calc Sum: ff
Read Sum: 1c
Loading default g400agp.sys
Calculated Pin Sum: 6
E2Prom Pin Sum: 6

Pin is valid, reusing ...

Pins were damaged, information salvaged.
Unable to continue because of a bad PCB#
PCB #981
SUBSYSID #7c0

What now? Help, please?

Was is corrupt from day one or did you break it ?

The recovery tool does not support the G450 !

Try to visit my website and recover your BIOS using PROGBIOS. It's not that difficult. Oh, and first save the BIOS image some way - you will need your PInS.

Sorry, It's quite late and I must leave my computer at work. I'm not sure if the MXINFO version available at my website is the one that dumps the G450 PInS correctly. If not, please contact me and I'll send you the right version. This will save your PInS (if it's not destroyed) for further programming after basic recovery.

Sorry for the delay, folks.

The bios has already been fixed. Louie from Matrox Support resolved this issue.

To put it in a nutshell:
Don't try to recover your dead bios with a second Matrox card in your machine. In my case it was an old Millennium I PCI.

Actually you CAN recover your BIOS using second Matrox card as long as it is different enoough from the first. It's just the PROGBIOS that tries to make the impresion that it wants to update the BIOS of working card with the BIOS image suitable for the dead one. In fact it doesn't, so everything is OK.

Maybe progbios.exe does work with a second matrox card, but recover.exe from the Matrox recovery disk does definetly not work.
