My system:
K7M with classic Athlon 550
Matrox G400 MAX
Pioneer 6x scsi DVD
2930U scsi card
384 MB of ram
When watching DVD's. I sometimes see a frame of noise or a flicker of noise. The frame with blocky distortion. You know what I mean?
Why does this happen?
Dust on the DVD? If I rewind and view the same few seconds where I saw the noise, it is often not seen again, which leads me to believe that the noise is NOT due to scratches. Besides, they are brand new mint DVD's. Rental DVD's with scratches are no different.
How can I prevent the blocky frames of noise?
It really pisses me off. Video tapes never do that and don't look poor until they are very old.
CPU, bus too slow? Software? Do I need a better software DVD player? I am using the one that came with the G400 MAX card. Would a hardware decoder prevent the noise? it shouldn't be any better than a G400 max, right?
