I KNOW WHAT THE NEW DRIVERS DO!!!

After spending a couple of hours swapping mobos back to the BX6 last night, I didnt bother reinstalling, and tried to run 3dmark2000 at 1 gig. no go. just crashed. Changed fsb to get 966Mhz, no go. went down to 750mhz and it worked.

I thought, oh well, I will have to reinstal winME after all.

Before I did that I thought I might as well have a look at the new 6.23 drivers (I did have 6.21 installed). Uninstalled 6.21 and installed 6.23 and everything was nice, no noticable frame rate increase though.

Then I though, 1 more try, and went back to 1 gig at 1.85V, and blow me down, but 100% stable. I thought, it couldnt be the drivers could it? so went back to 6.21 and its not stable at anything above about 800mhz.

Back to 6.23 and 100% stable at 1 gig. Played UT for about 40 minutes, and left the 3dmark2000 demo running overnight. It was still going this morning.

Im going to try putting the P3V4X back in tonight, and try that with the 6.23 drivers and see what happens. I was using the 6.21 drivers when I had it in last.

The thing that worries me is that when I was using the P3V4X I always had the AGP within spec (ie 66mhz). The video drivers never occured to me as being the cause of the instability because the G400 was always within spec. Oh well, whats another couple of hours playing with mobos?

In case anybody is interested, it didnt work. The P3V4X is a piece of shit.

Even with the CPU at 750, and the RAM at 133, 3dmark2000 wont finish (and I love that game sooo much).

It seems the P3V4X doesnt like running the ram at 133Mhz, even though the RAM in question is rated for that.

The Driver version didnt make any difference. Oh well, worth a try.

I can't seem to select the clone-radiobutton, or any other, and powerdesk will hang if I change from NTSC to Pal. Whistler also lost the possibility for dualhead, but that's because these are 2000 drivers. And 2000 only allows one stretched desktop.

Very curious how you managed to install it...

Yes, Ant, it's really something how they'd "forget" to inform their only major fansite while they'd inform HardOCP (a general hardware site)

Must be a sign of how much Matrox really cares about its customers.....excepting the Tech support guys, of course cuz they are great.

So, does anyone have anything good to say about these new drivers? Do they actually do something?

I have the same prob when i install the drivers for the first time (a friends of mine the same )....Windows give me an error when change NTSC to PAL or the options in Dual Head ...tring for three four times i solve the prob !!!!
I think it's not a prob of drivers but the Whistler ...i have installed since the first Beta ...and i think 2296 it's the better version ...more stable ...but u can't change the drivers !!!!!
I think that u solve this prob !!!!!

I´ve been playing UT and Quake 3 and everything seems to be equal to 6.20 drivers. Oh well...

I don't know what matrox is trying to do with 6.2x drivers.

All game with the unreal engine have some texture corruption. (works fine with 6.01 or 6.04)

FAKK2 works great with 6.21, not with 6.23. Elite force works great with 6.23, not with 6.21 (i'm talking about the demo, so perheaps the full game ?)

Ah ain't that great they inform HardOCP of new releases. They never inform me any more I'm obviously out of favour with Sebastian, I must have been removed from his circulation list, again. Still who cares.

I have tried to install the driver to Whistler 2410. It didn't work.
I have the same problem. Whenever I change the setting under "DualHead", it crashes.

I don't know how.
When I tried it on 2296, if I upgrade Win2000 to Whistler, it seemed to work, but I couldn't change the settings. I had to leave it like that.

I think it is about time for Matrox to release some kind of Whistler beta driver. Final Whistler might be released 2Q 2001. Am I right? (maybe I am wrong...)

DO NOT expect drivers to be released for an OS that is not released (or even in public beta). Period.

I just keep them all since 5.55 (Marvel G400) so I can switch if it is warranted.
