hey peeps i need some help!
ok guys help
ive got into a games programming course which specialises in open-gl and i need a really fast system im thinking of a athlon 1.2gig and loads of ram/hd space. But the main question is will a radeon 64ddr help in this situation or am i best suited to get a more open gl freindly card?

also is ddr ram a)out yet b)in the uk? c)how much d)how quick?

I would thought your radeon 32ddr should be sufficient for the opengl work. Anyway, let other people help you on that matter.
I also from UK so I can tell you about DDR ram, there were three types of DDR I know of so far in UK, PC1600 cost~£70, PC2100 3.3V cost~£125, PC2100 2.5V cost~£175, all of them are 128Mb module. However, they are out but rare to find in UK,and since I am not at home until weekend then I cannot tell you which company's web page to look for, sorry about that.

Oracle, if you plan on really TRULY getting into serious OpenGL work then you need to get a card from these guys. http://www.3dlabs.com

The Oxygen series of cards is designed from the ground up to accelerate OpenGL work. Generally speaking these cards are designed more for CAD work and the like, but it's something you should look into at least. Among other reasons because the card are FULLY OpenGL compliant. None of the mainstream cards are so far as I know (Matrox, ATI, nVidia, 3dFx).

Thats just something to keep in mind. As for DDR Ram, I don't know how much luck you would have finding a motherboard that could support it anyway. There really isn't much available just yet.

if you want ddr ram check out www.overclockers.co.uk they have crucial ddr ram for exactly the same price as sdr ram, so its a pretty good deal.
