  • Dumb Question!! Do I use the uninstaller in Win2k?

If its been posted, I guess I missed it. Should I use the Matrox uninstaller in Win2k? Or is deleting my G200 in Device manager and then using the Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel to remove the Matrox software sufficient?

This is the first time I've upgraded Matrox drivers from Matrox drivers. I've got the 5.31's in now and I want to try the 5.33's. I installed the 5.31's over the Matrox drivers that came on the WIn2k CD.

Make a customization file, save it to floppy, uninstall your drivers, reboot, allow the driver for standard VGA to boot into windows, install the new drivers, reboot, load your previously save customization.

EDIT: I just thought I would clarify "uninstall your drivers". What I mean is go into control panel, add/remove programs, and choose Matrox software to uninstall.

Err... I'd run pduninst.exe from the WINNT directory if I were you...

          Rags,

Ooh, does that actually run pduninst.exe now? Cool, I was under the impression it was fairly useless. Just goes to show you learn something new every day!

Yes, it runs the Matrox uninstaller. It's part of the WDM drivers.

Thanks guys. I'll just use the add/remove programs from control panel tonight when I get home.

Perhaps Matrox needs to clarify this on their website. It says to use the uninstaller on all 5.x series drivers and above, but its not clear that it only applies to Win9x. Since the Win2k drivers are 5.x, I was confused. It didn't make sense to use an uninstaller made for Win9x on Win2k, but I thought I would ask first and save a headache later.

                Thanks,
The Add/Remove Programs in Win2k Control Panel worked exactly like the old uninstaller in Win98. The new drivers are in and working just fine.

Does it need to be uninstalled first? Has anyone had problems with just installing new drivers over the old ones?

Most of the time, no. I have had an occasional problem though that uninstalling would have avoided.
