Dean relax, chill out, you're not going paranoid your just joining a group poeple like me who like there monitors to be perfect and notice every little error. I've gone through nine monitors in the last year and they're still not right.
Perhaps it's probs with 19 inchers not being up to scratch. I never had the same probs with 17 inchers. Perhaps it me mince pies but they checked out okay earlier this year.
Anyway when I'm on Holiday next the Iilyama going back on onsite warrenty.

Paranoia? That's just having more information than you can use. From what I've heard.

Or rather: I've had more computer problems in the past year or so than the past five combined, so I'm willing to accept that this monitor problem is a hex of some kind.

With that in mind, I probably wouldn't be so picky if I don't see such superior displays on other people's computers. I mean, geek inferiority is one thing, but when you plunk down the money to catch up you at least expect a decent picture.

I guess we'll see what The Great Monitor Exchange of 2001 brings to the table this week.

Well I wander around a University and I see a great varition in monitor quality. Most of the time it pot luck if you get a good one.
Nothing wrong with being picky. It's amazing what poeple put up with when they can use the controls to adjust things or set the appropiate refresh rates in the display properties.
I don't know whether 19 inches show up the errors more than 17 inch but I've had more problems with 19 inchers.

I think manufacturer are trying to cut cost on their product nowadays. The quality of monitor varies so much even for the same model from the same manufacturer. I'm now using a Sony G500 and I think it's a good monitor in general. But I think the focus could be better for a monitor of this price and it also has a slight halo problem. Getting a replacement is both time consuming and a heavy workout. This thing weights 70 lbs and I don't want to carry this thing back and end up with another one that's even worst.

O...for those of you saying 17" are less problematic than 19"...I think the reason is because 19" is heavier than 17" and it's more likely they get bump around during shipping. By the time you got it home everything inside and the calibration are all mess up.

I have the exact same monitor hooked up to my G450, but the only problem I have is that it curves inwards slighly on the top and bottom edges. And wouldn't ya know, that's the only geometric property that you can't adjust via the OSD

I would take mine back but as you said, 70 pounds is quite heavy and there is the hassle of going back and forth if it turns out to be a crappier one.

Mine doesn't have geometry problem like yours. It's the slight blurriness that bothers me.

This is the perfect example...same monitor but we both have different problems and it shows how poor the QC is. Don't get me wrong...I think the G500 is still a good monitor. Or maybe I just got used to the razor sharp image from the monitor I'm using at work (Eizo/Nanao F980). But at almost $2500 a crack, I guess we can't compare that to the G500.

If it does I haven't found it. The curve is just slight, but noticeable. Otherwise the rest of the geometry is perfect (left and right sides are ok)

I don't have the blurriness problem described, but then again I have not seen the Eizo to compare.

I gotta get myself a BNC connector.

At least I went the local-store route this time so I can continue Exchange Fest 2001 until I am remotely satisfied.

Now all this talk about Sony problems is even making that 3rd step nervous. Oh well. I figure something will be wrong with whichever monitor I end up with -- I just have to find the "least bad." Kinda like voting.

I think it doesn't help the situation that 19" monitors are a relatively new invention. So I guess it's understandable -- to a degree -- that it's such an ordeal finding a good one. I mean, even unit to unit on the same model seems to vary greatly these days.

                          Argh.

Probably wouldn't hurt to reinstall Windows sometime soon either. It's been a few months. Although with my luck, my computer will shoot BB's out at me.

Sure the best monitor of 19 inch is SONY CPD E/G400 series.

I fave one of this with my G400MAX: very fantastic pictures.

The max risolution of this monitor is 1800x1440@70Hz. with a dp of 0,24/25.

The quality of image is very very hight!!!!

Greebe: bokchoy is talking about the top and bottom horizontal edge being curved...not the side edges.

It does have pincushion control but that only fix the side edges.

BokChoy: i'm using the bnc cable with my G500...doesn't make a diff until you hit 1600 * 1200.
