  • DualHead Problem

Im not sure whether its the eDualHead, but sometimes when i restart, windows wont load, the main screen remains black and the second screen shows a really messed up picture. after that the only way to get it working again is to start in safe mode, uninstall the matrox drivers and reinstall them again.
im only using dualhead for about a week now, but it happened once with the old and once with the new drivers.
it happened with two different monitors on the second vga out, so the monitor shouldnt be the problem.
    whats wrong with it?

98, Me, 2000? What OS are you using?

Do you have the correct monitor profiles loaded?

    Are you overclocking?

IRQ? or are you using ACPI, if ACPI is your mobo 100% compliant?

Is it hot? Do you have a G400, MAX or G450?

Have you got some strange application running that might be causing this?

Sounds like your card isn't seated fully.

I saw exactly that on my computer, it would be helpfull if you posted your specs here.
Now, the only thing I changed to get rid of all that crap was update my bios and change AGP to 2x (from 4x)
          Matrox Millenium P750 bios 1.3 - 12, P4 3Ghz HT 800Mhz, Asus P4P800 Deluxe, 1Gb DDR400 Dual Channel, Dual Seagate 80Gb S-ATA on Intel Raid level 0, Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1302, external Yamaha CD-RW CRW-F1DX on Firewire, Microsoft Natural Elite keyboard, Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, Viewsonic P90F, Viewsonic PF790

card is seated fully, it was not the edualhead, checked that. also it doesnt happen when i restart, it only happens when i turned the computer off, left it overnight and started. i installed the 6.23 drivers now to see if it happens with those as well.
as i said, it happened with two different monitors, but they are both rather old, maybe thats why??
today both of the screens had messed up picture, not only the second. dont know if that is an improvement though

I had this behaviour occassionally (very seldom) as well with my K7M - this went away with the ABit KT7. So it might well be related to the AMD750 chipset or the K7M. It copuld also depend on the AMD miniport - don't ask me which version I had, but I think it got better when I installed the VIA AGP (however this is NOT recommended to do and most probably will get you other problems with AGP texturing - I had lots of "bumping back to the desktop" especially in 3DMark99/2000)

I doubt it's the fault of the northbridge. I have an MSI 6167 and it's never had that problem... on the flipside, the k7m did have a long and twisted bios history.
