can't access display settings in 98

I have a marvel g400 tv on an athlon 900 system.
I'm now using driver 5.41. I also get the same problem with 5.55.

When I pull up display properties and go to settings, it hangs.

This card was working fine on my machine. I installed a new drive and did a clean install of 98 and now i'm having this problem.

The card isn't sharing an IRQ or anything.

Any suggestions?

maybe a problem with DX ?

W98's PD5.x is written for DX6, while PD6.x is based on DX7 ... just a guess though.

I had this problem before and after installing the latest dirctx (i think 8)

the matrox diagnosics tests as ok too.

the pcvcr software works fine and i can capture. i just can't get to my video settings.

I have seen this before when a user has had a different video card in previously, and the drivers for the old card were either not installed, or the card's uninstall routine was sub-par *cough*ATI*cough.


You wouldn't have had a different video card installed there previously, would you?
