Anyone here satisfied with your Matrox Card?

i get the impression that the problems do not (only) lie within your matrox card, but maybe the combination of the card with the other hardware and software..

Dann it sounds as if you have a problem with your system which is messing up the graphics. Post a new thread detailing the problems, I'm sure somebody will be able to help you.

I was expecting some sort of reply in this vain, but I can assure everybody that the drivers are at fault.

I have tested an retested with other cards, and this is the only one that doesn't work properly. No matter the amount of re-install of win2k. No matter the amount of re-install of the drivers.

I have been a Matrox Millenium buyer ever since they first came out. I have been a regular guest at G200.com. If you follow up on what Matrox does, you should know they have real problems getting decent drivers out. No other card tested on my system performs this bad... and I mean *real* bad.

I can't judge the quality of the G200 hardware - I can judge how it performs (even with the latest drivers) : simply awfully.

So, please put you Matrox clan feelings aside and admit they have really messed up. The G200 was shelved and all focus was put on the G400, and even that one never performed up to par with the competition...

I don't expect improvement ever, but my new system is coming along soon, and guess what : I will not include Matrox stuff.

if you want help with your problem so that you can use your current system before you get the new one, it would be wise to post your system specs (detailed!)

You know, I had exactly the same issue with my G400. In my case a complete reinstall took the problems away.

Edit: Oh, and a reply to the topic itself: YES I am happy with my G400 MAX. I don't do much gaming, though... A couple of hours/week maybe.

Right now, I have a second PC, a Sony VAIO PIII 500Mhz, which I use if I come across a site with flash, or if I need to watch a movie... this one, the G200 victim I only use for programming or text editing... al least that works fine.

But seriously, why do you think this is a problem you can solve by tweaking ? After I swapped cards (all NVidia's), the problems disappeared. I think the G200 Win2K drivers are very low performance - apart from some bug fixes, these latest drivers are probably even very similar to the very first WDM placeholder drivers Matrox quickly coughed up to get some visual under Win2K, just after the OS was released (or even the same ones that came with the betas).

Matrox never came around it to develop decent drivers for the G200... and knowing how difficult it is for them to get programmers for the job, do you really think they ever did ? Come on !

Look, even while this old beast is touting 2x233Mhz PII's, it still works great with any other graphics card I have tried. All except the Matrox.

so far im happy with my max, never had anything to compare the visual quality with except a voodoo 1 (which wouldnt be fair) and a borrowed tnt, but i had a crappy monitor back then, so i couldnt see a lot of difference. at the moment i use my pc mainly for word and browsing the web using dual head (the crappy monitor mentioned above serving as secondary output), in summer ill probably get a new pc, because ill have finished school (yessss ) and have some more time for gaming. hope matrox will have a new card till then, if they announce something or at least spread some new rumours i might actually wait.
the little gaming i do (UT being the most stressing game for my card, i dont like q3...) runs perfectly well at 1024 with 32bits.
when i try to play demos of games like giants or serious sam its starting to show its age though, but thats fine with me at the moment. dvd is great.
so: im perfectly happy right now (although i would be even happier with a g8000maxxx3 ), but coming june/july i might be stuck being only half-happy. i might even go as far as buying a whole new system just for gaming, since the only things i would be able to keep from my current one are the soundcard and the case (which is too loud). the problem would be, that i needed another monitor then, my second one i really falling apart, its more than 5 years old and after a while it starts making really nasty high pitched sounds just at the edge of hearing which cant be blocked by loud music and i have to switch it of for 10+ minutes for it to stop.

I am satisfied with my Marvel G400. I bought this card because it could do everything. Later on I bought an Asus V7700 Deluxe (GF2), but I have always had a lingering dislike of it though 1024x768x32bit with 3D glasses is nice. My Marvel has never disppointed me. The quality has always been top notch and the software and settings are very easy/intuitive to use. Even when I stray from the pack I will always keep a good eye looking for the next quality product from Matrox and switch immediately as their cards have never disappointed me.

Hi Angry_Dann,

sorry to hear that you have such bad luck, but did it ever occur to you that your G200 might be damaged? I mean, things like this happen. My first Millenium II was broken and i had to return it, but the replacement is still working in the PC of my girlfriend.

Perhaps you should try to stick it into another computer and see what happens. But if you have given up, this is IMO ok also, there is only so much trouble i would take with dysfunctional hardware.

Oh, before i forget. My G400 made some trouble after swiching to a VIA KX board. But setting everything AGP 1x helped and now it is rockstable. Playing is ok at 800*600*16 but everything above would be painfull. Ah, i only have a 15" monitor anyway, so...]
