G200 Question

Hey, my VooDoo3 2000 w/ 16 mb ram just died, so i replaced it with my good old G200 w/ 8m ram. I noticed that 2D performance is significally slower on the G200, especially in 32bit color @ high rest (1024+). Is it because of G200 2d chip being slower than Voodoo3's, or is it because it has less video ram? And if it has less video ram, will adding the 8m addon improve the 2D performance a lot?

P.S. I couldnt care less about 3d, i dont play games
