G400 Max - want to buy. What is this OEM stuff?

Hey guys, what is up with these people selling G400 Max cards on Ebay and other forums that are OEM? It seems that Dell must have included them as a workstation option at some point?

If anyone can point me in the direction of one they know of for sale in the US I'd appreciate it! (preferably one that hasn't been over clocked to 444000mhz!!)

G400MAX never came in an OEM form.
Anyone advertising an OEM MAX is either lieing, or doesn't know what they are talking about, and are selling a regular G400.

That would be very incorrect as Dell did ship the G400 Max in some of thier machines.

I have just been told officially that Dell did in fact resell an OEM MAX. Matrox themselves never did, but Dell did.

Do the Dell Max's come with SDRAM like the rest of the OEM's or SGRAM like the retails? What other differences does it have?

I don't know what the Dell OEMs where equiped with, but I do know that not all OEM G400s where SDRAM. Many (if not the majority) where SGRAM.

is that so. I remember matrox's whitepapers said that OEM's come with SDRAM. Well my SH comes with hyundai 6ns SDRAM that oc's like mad.

He means his OEM G400 16meg SH came with SGRAM.
MAX never came with DDR.
Retail MAXs came with 5ns SG, while "vanilla" G400s came with 6ns SG.
Only G450 has DDR, and there is no MAX version of G450...

Yes. That is so. If you got an SD or SGRAM model entirely depends on what that particular OEM bought. The SDRAM version was the cheapest G400 available, and is refered to around here as a "G400SD". In general, it is assumed that a G400 (retail or OEM) has SGRAM unless specified as SD.

oh btw, some vanilla's came with 5ns SGRAM. I guess Matrox had surplus chips orignally bought for Max's so they slapped them on vanilla's.

Those were Maxes that didn't quite cut it so they shipped them without a fan and sold it as just a G400. You're lucky if you got one of those.
