NEW INFO! Somehow, I got the system working but only when I have #1 monitor (large one) in #2 slot and vice versa. When I switch them back the way I want it, the #2 monitor is dark. It is an IBM 9525 (15") and I have been unable to define it in device manager. I can't seem to have two monitors defined in device manager. That has got to be the problem. But the Hatachi is defined, so it doesn't matter where I put it.

Okay, I finally have it working. I did move the monitors to correctly represent things. The only thing that is not right is that #1 monitor (NOW #2) is 800x600 and I can't seem to change that resolution. I'm sure the problem is with win2000. Does anybody know how to do that? If I go to properties of the display, I only see the old #1 monitor. It's settings are now applied to the old #2 monitor (the 15" one). They are fine for it, but I need the 19" monitor to have a finer resolution. Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!

The reason for two threads was that one had ran it's course. People get tired of following one and then the likelyhood of an answer is remote. Starting a new one gets new interst. Sorry it bothered you. So do you know how to add a 2nd monitor to device manager in win2000? That would be useful info.

Why have two threads going? I replied to your other thread, so let's keep it in one place, okay?

It will happen when you install the drivers like I told you.

EDIT:
The reason it's not good to have two threads for the same problem is that some people read these threads looking for the same answer, and when you split them up all over the place, it's hard to figure out what is going on. Another thing is that people are less likely to help you out if you cross post and split threads up, people (we) like to keep it one thread, it allows the people helping to know what's already been tried and what hasn't been tried, and just generally keeps everyone on the same track and the problem coherent.

So in keeping with this idea, I am going to post a copy of my reply to this thread here, I suggest keeping the help in this one.
Here's my reply from the other thread:
Just download the 5.52 drivers, uninstall your current drivers, reboot, run the setup for the new drivers and check add extended dual head features in the setup, let it finish, reboot, then select use multidisplay in the DualHead tab, then select multimonitor settings in that same tab, then select use different resolutions and reboot, you should have independent displays available on reboot, you will have to select the second monitor shown in display properties and check "extend desktop to this monitor" in that same dialog box.
EDIT:
When I say uninstall your current drivers, I mean to go into your control panel/add-remove software and select Matrox Software in the list and uninstall this way.

Yes, windows 2000 isn't designed to recognize the second output on the video card, so the drivers are what tells windows what it sees for a monitor.
Uninstall the video card drivers, reboot, then when windows detects the video card hit cancel. Run the setup. Windows will work without a driver, it uses a standard software layer to interface with the card, so you can run the setup without having a driver installed.

I don't think you are looking in the right spot. DO THIS EXACTLY:
Uninstall your drivers using add/remove software in the control panel. Reboot, hit cancel when it detects your video card. Go to the folder where you unzipped the 5.52 windows 2000 drivers for the matrox card, run the setup.exe file. Click install extended dual head support when you get the option allow windows to install the unsigned drivers, click finish. Once windows is done rebooting, goto display properties/settings/advanced/dualhead and check use multidisplay, reboot. Go back to display properties/settings/advanced/dualhead and click on the MultiDisplay Settings button, check the box that allows independent/different resolutions for the monitor. Go ahead and reboot. Once windows is done loading, goto display properties/SETTINGS and there should be a picture of two monitors there, click on the number 2 monitor and check the box below the pics that says "Extend desktop...".

No Rags, you misunderstand. Everything is fine. I was just responding to the question of how the old driver (the winME driver 5.12) worked in the win2000 system. Since I followed your last directions, everything has been fine. Sorry for the confusion. I see how easy it would have been to misread that.

no no ...
I was just amused that you used a Windows98 driver on a Windows2000 system.
