  • About G450 and G400 MAX (again...)

I read about G450 from Matrox's web page. In a specification sheet there reads that G450 has antialiasing support. How fast is it (how does it affect e.g. gameplay) or is it just a "phoney" feature? Should I consider a used G400 MAX as an option or should I buy a new G450 straight? I really have decided I'm going to buy a Matrox product. Radeon hasn't DualHead (well, Raden VE has, but it sucks!) and GeFrown's are either too expensive or have a bad image quality. Some detailed specifications of G400 (MAX) and G450 would be very helpful (mem types, bus, Mhz, supported 3D features, pixels/s or texels/s etc)!

Well, you can use antialiasing in RealMyst and 3D Winbench 2000 but it really slows the poor card down. The lowest rez in RealMyst with AA on really makes the game look better, but it is noticeably slower. This is a G400 at 177/200.

If you have decided to buy a Matrox card, specs dont matter. The MAX is faster than the G450, and apparently has slightly better TV out.

The G450 has a higher max resolution on the second head. Depends on what monitor you are going to use I suppose.

If you can find a G400Max for a decent price, it's still a better card than the G450 (unless, as ALI said, you plan to run a high res/high refresh secondary monitor)

That's the real problem: G400MAX is extremely overpriced. I could get two G450's by the same price! G450 costs ~135 (800 FIM) USD here in Finland and G400MAX (which only one or two stores nowadays sell) costs over 260 USD (1600 FIM) !! I tried to buy a used G400 MAX, but it was only SH and a little broken.

Anyway, if I had enough money to buy a G400MAX, I could spend the money more wisely and buy a G450 and some extra memory. G450 + 128 MB PC-133 = ~200 USD (1200 FIM).

I'd like some specs for G450 too. Here's what my current i740 can do:

            i740 feature sheet

It would be nice to know how much better G450 is
