  • M power!

There are tooooo many posts about how bad matrox has become - im here too talk about how good matrox IS!!!

Matrox represents quality OVER quantity and NOT the other way around!!!

G4x00 RIPS TNTs! I got a few friends who got TNT2s and the frames they get are BELOW average even with the latest drivers - even at certain gaming rooms, while over TNTs are said to be FAST. From this i conclude that TNTs are not CONSISTANT because there are too many manufacturers who use the chipset on their boards since nvidia dont even make there own boards!!! And different manufacturers will mean that unified drivers wont necessarily make full use of the card.

Geforces only have ONE main advantage - its own GPU. When this becomes common Geforces will become Gee-Farts!

Matrox is a prestigious 20yr-old company who produces many QUALITY products. They produce their own boards also, so all their cards are quality consistent cards that come from the same place and has constantly evolving drivers that help fix the many problems.

I dont believe that matrox SHOULD focus all their R&D on THE PERFECT NO1 GRAPHICS CARD THAT CAN DO Xfps AT xresolution!
Its better to do what you can then to gamble all your EGGS in one basket and THEN lose. MAYBE when they get more power(financially) they may just start producing cards that will blow the competition out of the water!!!

Theres no use trying to MATCH the competitor all the time. Matrox is KNOWN for innovative design such as the dual-bus, embm and etc.

In short, matrox is constantly designing quality cards that in my opinion kicks ass!

In fact, you are right, I think the same way. But that will never keep me from hoping for a new card soon!

I think the quality of Matrox gfx cards is beyond discussion. I even bought a G400 for my working machine (on my own cost!) to replace the crappy card it had.
But for my private system I would like something new from Matrox to replace my vanilla G400, as it is showing it's age.
I dont expect the next card to compete with the GF3, but hope another good allrounder from Matrox hits the market soon.

"Matrox Millennium G450 appeared very hard to evaluate.

As a rule, Matrox didn't care about the implementation of those functions, which were necessary not only for work in 3D modeling applications but also for proper displaying of the separate scenes. The performance of G450 in Wireframe mode (benchmarks 13, 14) corresponds to the cost of this graphics solution, however as soon as Anti-Aliasing is enabled, you'd better forget about any efficient work: the performance drops down about 10 times. And even though theoretically you can do without Anti-Aliasing, low performance in Smooth + HighLights mode (benchmark 14) make further use of G450 in 3DMAX absolutely impossible."

        P.S. I didn't write it

Alot of people knows when they hear the name Matrox that it's the best windows graphic card concerning colors, quality, resolution and 2D speed.
So it gained it's reputation based on 2 things : quality and speed.

There's only one point missing, you don't know that untill you really see a Matrox card in action, and that's when u become a Matrox addicted

Alot of people base there opninions on magazine and online reviews; and up untill 2-3 years ago, Matrox was leading with it's 2D speed and quality.

However, you can't easily show 2D/3D quality in a review, and that's what really matters for monitors and video cards.

As an example, look at how the cards fly in freecell on Matrox adapters, and how they just walk in slowly on other cards.
But NO ONE would say that in any magazine or online review.

The point is, people who never saw Matrox in action would base their buying on it's speed benchmarks, well they are king in 2D, they should be in 3D speed too.

I remember when i used to see magazine ads or benches, Matrox was always at the top of every single 2D bench.
The same should go for 3D.

The same thing is going on for the whole industry scene, and this really suck bad.
Manufacturers always advertise speed and performance over quality, stabilty, features and capabiblity.

Reviewres also do the same, and the end user is misguided; he always wants speed over anything else.

Look at the P4 scores as example, but is 1.5-1.7 GHz really faster than 1 GHz ??
It's all about NUMBERS. and that's sad.

I agree. Numbers means nothing - if you never tried the card yourself.

Look, matrox is a very GOOOD company - lets NOT pick around at the little 'GLITCHES' of the cards. Gx00 ARE pretty OLD compared to the "GEE-I-FART 3's".

Hopefully* matrox's next card (whatever that may be!) will have more hardware capabilities (such as antialiasing) and other improvements and ONCE again DESTROY the other bastards!!!

I just love it when people talk about 20 years of excellence bla bla bla...

A small reminder - Matrox Mystique...
Less features than any other card that is worth mentioning. Matrox's claim - All those features our competitors have are worthless without the brute FPS needed.

When the G200/G400 came out, the mantra suddenly changed. How consistent...

Matrox's greatest success so far is and was the Millenium 1. The G400 came near but didn't quite make it. I'm still waiting for the next 'real' Millenium card.
When the Mill 1 came out, the onl other card that was at the same level/better was No.9 Imagine 128 which was WAY too costly and had no 3D features (Great drivers though). Hawk Eye (No.9) and PowerDesk were examples for how drivers should really be made.

Well, that's water down the drain, my Mill 1 still serves me well at work on my BeOS machine A true peace of art for 470$ (yes, that's the price for the mill 1 shortly after it came out, now guess how much the N0.9 costs)...

By the way, I still have the original box (/me proud) !

                is that US$???

well times has changed - it IS harder to be ahead of the pack with so much compstition.

oh yeah its not 20yrs, its 25-yrs of excellence...

i might like to add how i experienced the power of matrox this evening..

this afternoon i got all set up to play AOE2 with some of my friends over the network, and i neglected to remember to shutoff G@H before starting the game. Well, as it turns out, i didnt have any problems. It didnt run any slower at all. It was great. I realized after i exited the game, that i left G@H on.

so thats the power of matrox. no slow down. its as slow as it will get.

                    hehe..

3D is todays word (actually it's two words: three dimensional ), but graphic card benchmarkers have forgotten all about 2D. It just sucks that only 3D tests are shown. I made a little calculation: over 85 % of the time I watch 2D graphics. Only when I play some Quake clone or such I use 3D. As OS's aren't (yet) 3D, 2D speed and quality is the most important factor for me! And I don't even work much with my comp'! What about those millions of people who mainly use their comp's for working purposes? What do they do with a graphics card that's capable of displaying 100+ fps at 2048x1538 with 48 bit colors, if the 2D sucks? My point is that there are almost no cards that have been directed to working purposes (I don't mean 3D Cad cards!). Matrox is the only one (although their cards are good for gaming too).

Recently, in their latest magazine, the biggest PC-magazine in Finland, MikroBitti, tested Kyro II. They showed only 800x600x16bit and 1024x768x32bit 3D results and mentioned that 2D is a little faster that GeFrown, but didn't say anything more about 2D!! The whole article was about 3D functions and how it was "nearly as fast as GeFrown, but more is to be done".
