We're running Windows NT V4.0 (SP6a) on Compaq Deskpros (EN450 and EN800), each with paired G200 SDs with 8M RAM. This problem has been observed on both V4.45 and V4.77 drivers for the G200, at resolutions 800 x 600 ("1600 x 600"), 1024 x 768 ("2048 x 768"), and 1280 x 1024 ("2048 x 1024").
If we have more than one application running on the workstation, with two (or more) windows occupying the same screen space, and one of the windows is moved (or closed), one would hope the image on the screen to be promptly redrawn. Many times, this does not happen. The user is left with a portion (or all) of the window in question, showing on the screen, long after the window has been moved.
Sometimes, when the user of the workstation waits long enough, the screen will be eventually redrawn. This might happen after a few seconds. Or a few minutes. On occasion, the user will close both applications involved before any display change is seen. In all cases, the user is left waiting for a substantial amount of time before the screen is redrawn.
I have run Performance Monitor remotely, and have run NT Task Manager locally, against the
workstations in question. No resources on these workstations ever shows any signs of being overused.
This situation has not pleased the proposed owners of the workstations. In two cases, the owners have (politely but firmly) requested their older (substantially less powerful) workstations to be returned.
This project, which involves the replacement of a dozen or so Pentium Is and IIs with Pentium IIIs (using the G200s), is not going well. Has anybody else experienced this problem?
