  • Windows XP!!!!

    Hello, guys...

    I have a problem...

I installed Windows XP, but when I tried to play DVD, PowerDVD says "DDraw Overlay mode is required to play the movie".

Does anyone know how to change the DirectX settings?

I like Windows XP, but now it won't let me play my DVD movies.

    Help me...please...

      Sorry...

      Here it is...

      Software:
      Windows XP Post-Beta 2 Build 2469
Matrox driver 5.52 for Windows 2000

      Hardware:
      Celeron 566 overclocked to 850
Abit BE-6 Version 1.2 with HPT370 UDMA66 Controller (Not using it though)
      384 MB RAM PC-133
Matrox G400 Vanilla - not overclocked
      SBLive! Value
Pioneer DVD+Yamaha 4X4X16 CDRW under AHA-2940 SCSI Adaptor

That's all I can think of right now...

      Sorry for being so vague...

      Thank you in advance.

        Lower your resolution to 1024X768.

          I tried that too...
          I tried:
1280X960 at 16-bit color depth (which was working fine before) at 85 Hz

I usually use my computer at 1600X1200 at 16 bit color depth, at 85 HZ. And, it was working fine.

Now, although I lower the resolution, it still says DirectDraw overlay mode is required....

I tried to run dxdiag.exe, and found out that Windows XP 2496 came with DirectX 8.1. And, under the graphics tab, nothing is hardware accelerated, DDraw, D3D, nothing...

Is this normal? All I need is to be able to run my DVD... It was working fine in build 2462 and 2465.

          Weird, eh?

Go to add/remove programs and remove Matrox software. Reboot, hit cancel when it picks up your new hardware, run the setup for the 5.52 drivers and reboot.

I guess I need to go back to 2465...

Thank you very much, guys. You guys saved me a lot of times for me...

This is not the driver's fault. There have been numerous reports that directx is not working properly in build 2469.

Your best chances are to go back to 2465 and wait until another build is out that will work properly.

Jup, the DirectX in build 2469 is broken somehow... better just ditch that one and move to an earlier build.
