  • G450 and TV Tuner Cards

Question 1: Does the G450 support "Overlay"?
Question 2: Are there any recommendations for Tuner Cards?

    Thanks

Answer 1: I think virtually any card made in the last 4 years should support Overlay.

Answer 2: Almost any - I've used Matrox' (but can't have one on a G450), Hauppauge's, Askey's (generic bt848), etc etc and really they're all as good as each other. Half the time one company's drivers work on another's hardware too. I'd say a named product though, like Hauppauge would be a good idea for support purposes.

Or you could wait for G450eTV, which will have it's own tuner...

based on c't tests i'd say hauppauge, and the g450 eTV does look really nice, but we're still waiting for it, and i doubt it will be cheap.. (and if i were to buy a new graphics card, i'd wait for matrox's next product (but this would be a long wait, considering matrox's speed in getting out new cards) or a kyro II)

Well I will look into the hauppauge card because I allready have the g450 and am not wanting to buy another video card untill something really impresses me and not much out there currently does... More than a matrox product...

          Thanks for the info...

            yep, go for Hauppauge ...

I recommend to use some free TV apps, instead of the ones Hauppauge inckudes, because the latter uses some wierd overlay mode which is not supported by DVD Max.

            http://freetv.321host-it.com/
offers quite a few TV apps and MoreTV for example gives you creamy TV fullscreen via DVD Max.

How good is the image quality for hauppauge ?
Example running desktop at 1600x1200x85Hz ?
Does it cause any blurness in Windows display ?

              Regards.

I have the Hauppauge WinTV pci card and it looks fine on the G450 cept them odd jaggies produced on moving objects within a scene. (looks like they're produced by incorrectly filtering a scan doubler)

The DTV version from what I understand doesn't have this problem.

It's available in the UK and has been for a while

I have the G450 eTV... Very nice card by the way...

One of the main reasons why I bought it was for the video capture. However, anywhere I try to grab something, I get denied due to copy protection. So now I have spent $200 for a feature that is useless. I have scoured a few newsgroups for a patch with no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

                        Thankx in advance,

                        Chris
