  • Via Pro266 + G400MAX - AGP speed problem (+)

    Hi,

I use MB on VIA Pro266 chipset (VIA pack 4.32 already install) and Matrox G400MAX DH board.
This VIA chipset can support AGP 4x speed, but Matrox Tweak Utility report what current AGP Speed is 2x.
There is no AGP speed settings (1-2-4x) in Mainboard BIOS.

    Is it bug or not?

    WBR, Dmitry

Not all G400s are capable of 4x. Earlier cards where 2x/4x...they can run on a 4x mobo, but at 2x speeds.
To determine which card you have, post the part# from the sticker on the card (will start with G4+...)

that's no reason to be disappointed

compare it to finding out that your motherboard can only go up to UDMA/66 and your HDD supports UDMA/100... AGP 2x (and often 1x) will already show the maximum potential of the G400.
