  • Aperture Size for G400Max

    Hi There Everyone

Hopefully someone can help me here ....

Just got a AOpen AX3SP Pro Motherboard from my local computer store and in the process broke my rule about only buying ASUS MB. The card went in fine and with 4XAGP BUT ... the AGP aperture is set to 64 MB and there is apparently no option to change this ... has anyone had any experiance that would enlighten my current situation?

    Thanks in advance
    Erich

If there is no option to change and it doesn't hurt performance then it's not a problem. But if there is a problem, then you'll have to wait for Asus to come out with a newer BIOS.

Get Rags in here, or some of the other guys. I think your aperature problem is just a limitation of the chipset (is this an i815 motherboard?).
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Wombat is correct. You are running an i815 based motherboard. Intel has limited the AGP aperture to 64MB for reasons known only to intel. Don't sweat it, it should work fine otherwise.

Thanks a lot for the info ... the problem is that on my p2b-d my G400 MAX (with 256 aperture) with a p700 is actually BETTER then this new board with the 700 running at 933 .. drives me nuts!

Did you do a clean install?

And let me guess. You are running Windows 98, right? And I bet you didn't do a clean install.

May I suggest installing windows again and doing it from the command prompt using setup - p i as the command? You will get better performance.

Actually its Windows XP build 2505 .. and I did a clean install ... once with the P2b-d .. and then again with the new aopen one ..

card works both cases .. but works quicker on the slower p2b-d

i thought the the g400 max needed an agp aperture of 256 .. thats why i am concerned that the 815 isn't going to be very nice to my g400 .. do i need to flash the bios of the video card? .. i flashed both motherboards to their newest releases ...

Thanks again for the input ...

Make sure you have the memory running at 133 FSB. You may have it at 100 inadvertently. There should be a setting in the bios to set the Memory to FSB ratio.
